Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

Now this is an interesting post. But you'd show up on set with a hacked MKIII that clearly will lock up and get hot during recordings? One that VERY often requires the battery to be ejected and reinserted? C'mon - the 64 GB Komputercards are fine and will do 1920x1080 - I'd trust them over the hack in its current form. Geesh.

You do understand the difference between the time it takes to reboot a camera and the time it takes to reshoot a whole scene yeah?

It doesn't run any hotter than it did before, if anything it's cooler and it hasn't locked up once yet. A professional does many hours of field testing before putting any camera into production. I recall a particular camera company who stated that their cameras are "always in beta", and they used to go down all the time on set.

Zee Germans are working it, they'll probably have it up and running in a few days, they're German. Yeah cheap fast reliable big, sounds good to me. You can still go light and stealthy when need be too.

What Germans? Where?
Definitely interested in a solution.

this is 100% true ^^ although I do use komputerbay cards - havent had a serious issue yet. unfortunately the way my bank account is set up...lexar isnt an option.

It means that its not that reliable. :)

Its cheap because these "allegedly" came from chips used for expensive brands that did not pass QC.

I think you read the comments wrong, or something. Because this isn't the case. KomputerBay cards are using the same hardware as Lexar, they just don't have as stringent QC.

They will both get a box filled with the components, it is just that say Lexar will only use 60% of them whereas KomputerBay would use 80% of them, because of differing levels of QC.

My Komputerbay 1000x 128GB card is working nicely, albeit a bit slow. Getting about 71MB/sec peak write speed. Usually it hovers around 64MB/sec, with occasional dips to 61MB/sec which will drops frames at 1920 x 840. A bit disappointed, but I've ordered a pair of 64GB cards to test. The 64s are reported to peak around 90MB/sec and will do 1080p in raw reliably.

For those wondering, you need 87 MB/s sustained for 1920x1080 at 24fps, and 65 MB/s sustained for 1920x800 at 24fps (a very nice 2.40:1 aspect ratio)

Right, but you do understand currently if you format a card with exFAT, shoot without the 4GB limit and run out of card space your entire shot is lost since it can't save the footer information? Or even with the 4GB limit enabled your last 4GB shot will be gone too? I just don't get the snobbery against Komputerbay cards yet the current very beta raw ML hack is just fine? You do see what I mean here, right?

Yes, I agree.
Trying to insure enough reliability for professional use on one side by not using cards that have far more QC (Komputerbay) than the hack itself is a bit strange. Heck, even the HDMI port of the camera itself screws up more often even without ML than probably these cards ever will. I have to pop the battery out of the camera at least twice a session when using an EVF because it loses the handshake between the two devices. But people were willing to attach Ninjas to it as soon as the new camera update happened.
And now people are trying to find a DIY CF to SSD system? Well, I bet the QC will be really terrific on that!

Nobody is saying that the hack is ready for production. But many of us think it will be, relatively soon. I doubt the cards will get any better in that time.
(again, I have never touched a komputerbay card, and I only have a very preliminary opinion about them)

I have a Komputerbay 64GB 1000x card. Mainly because of my budget and it is working well so far. I've only had it for a few days so time will tell. But I mainly bought it to open up possibility of shooting 1920x1080p RAW. I would default to my ExtremePro Sandisk for any professional jobs and just experiment with the Komputerbay for now.

Yes I am aware of that and a solution is being worked on. It's not snobbery it's cautionary. It's risk management. I think I already explained the risks. This is a pre alpha build, nobody is trying to talk anybody into using it in production.

I reckon someone will start manufacturing them in quantity, most likely zee Germans followed by the Chinese and it will be a lot more reliable than HDMI.

Does anyone have know the write speeds for Transcend 1000x cards and if they can handle 1080P and the 4:3 1280P mode?
