Magic Lantern enables 14-bit RAW CinemaDNG on 5D

That's recording AVC on an AF101. You are looking at 5 times the data rate for raw.

Nope...1DC shooting 4K, not sure what you were looking at

I see what you saw...his first video with them was done on an af101. Scroll down and you will see the 1DC, the gear he used, the lenses, everything. It's also right in the header, shot on 1DC.

Olly Knghts and I now go back just over 2 years. Our first music video together was for his band Turin Brakes, and it was called “Ascension Day”. Shot on the Panasonic Af101

If you're going to only read the first two sentences in the linked article, then it's probably helpful if you understand that the paragraph is referring to the first video he shot with Turin Brakes was on the AF101, not the video that the article is about.

Does anyone know if there are any sample dng files floating around that can be downloaded and played around with? I'm frustrated seeing already graded tests, most of which show underexposed images that are brought back up. I want to see overexposed scenes that are brought down!

He just posted his video using ML raw and is giving dng files for download.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense since the BM4k is the exact camera he is saying won't be coming out anytime soon.
1) The BMPC4K won't be out for a few months, possibly more considering it's Black Magic. Magic Lantern is available now, even though it's a bit pre-alpha-ish.

2) They've said over and over again that raw will be available at a later point, and the new BM cameras will initially shoot ProRes.

3) 5D Mk2/Mk3 has a 60 % larger sensor than the BMPC4K.

Still would rather wait for that camera as opposed to purchasing a 5D to use this...it seems that the detail still isn't quite there (the sensor is still line-skipping after all), which is something the BMPC4K doesn't do.

I just played with some of the DNG's. What a wonderful thing. I really hope they can get this going safely on the 5D's. It would be amazing if they could manage on the 2 as well. And by safely I mean not melting your camera etc.

A few months is soon, hell, the BM4k might be out before a final release of this hack. Plus it is 4k, it uses SSDs, it has a global shutter, and best of all, it was built to work like this, and isn't a hack.

The sensor size isn't that much of an issue considering this hack requires 1:1 mapping of pixels for anything over 1920x1080, meaning that at its highest possible resolution with this hack, something like 3000x1000, the effective sensor size is equivalent to m4/3, and anything below that is a smaller effective sensor size, until you hit the 1920x1080 and it uses full frame again.

It is a great achievement showing what the cameras are capable of, but I don't think it will be used all that much beyond the novelty stage, mostly due to how much of a pain in the ass working with raw is, and how it isn't supported by Canon whilst also pushing the cameras heavily.

All that said, the BM4k is still the exact camera that Hitler mentioned by spouting specs in that video.

Squig... I haven't read if you have adressed this question, but do you think that ML would be able to enable a more resilient signal out through HDMi as well?
