Mac Clones

I know that Apple has a lawsuit against Psystar right now so I don't think they'll be around very long.

Well, Apple just filed suit against them, so their future as a company and their capacity to provide updates is something I would question.

You may very well get FCP to work and I know others have - but would your livelihood depend on that machine? No surprise that there's quite a bit of hacking involved in maintaining a hackintosh, which means there's a lot of ways for it to go wrong.

Legality aside, might be fun to mess around with but there's no way I'd use one as my primary editing system.

The article was a hoot, even knocking Apple for having Al Gore on their board. :)

"Tom acknowledged the EULA's requirement that the Mac operating system be installed only on Apple's own hardware, but claimed "there's a little bit of a conflict there" between that requirement and what he said is a user's right to run the operating system on a modified computer. He also called the language that limits Mac OS X's use to Apple-branded hardware "the only fudgy spot" in the EULA, and then went on to criticize Apple for having former Vice President Al Gore on its board of directors."

Apple is pretty anal about things. I mean I get pissed when I can't even take the songs I have PURCHASED and put them on a damn CD to listen to in the car. I mean yes, I have a cassette player and adapter for the SUV but I don't have that luxury in the cars which means I'm out of luck if I want to listen to my music.

And not to support any illegal programs, but even the applications that crack the format stop working with updates from iTunes - which you HAVE to download in order to purchase new songs. Apple owns the consumer and it is upsetting. Sorry if that was a BIT off topic. :)

So people are hating on the clones. It's not technically a hackintosh either, you need to mod nothing and it will install a legit copy of osx. You can that machine as well to rock some serious power and how is selling a computer that can run OSX a crime? Selling it pre installed I can understand, but a computer that can natively install osx being criminal? That seems insane.

So I am just insane, then. But I tried converting the AAP files to MP3 and they are protected. Maybe I was doing somehting wrong. I will try again.

Continue with the clones...
I currently have a CD with all my itunes songs burned from my computer. Then again I rarely update iTunes.

Apple's EULA says that you can only install OS X on Apple branded hardware. So, if you install it on a computer that is not made by Apple even though it will run os X without any modifications, then you're in breach of the EULA.

The part about modified system is if I take my Apple computer and change out hard drives or add a different graphics card etc.

This other company is just transferring the burden of the legal argument to you.

I've been dual-booting into osx86 on my main pc and editing with fcp for a while, no problems whatsoever
