Man! I read all the posts everywhere... "noise this" "not low light that".. I am just loving this camera!! Colors SEEM more realistic than my orange flavored Canon T3i, detail is SHOCKINGLY good in video and I don't even have a 4k monitor yet. Maybe 4k monitor will releave more flaws? Whatever... I just wanted to sing some praises for the GH4 4k video modes. No regrets. Can't wait to do more real projects with it.

Here's a shot from a video I'm working on. Cine-D, Sharp -2, 0-255, most everything else default, variable ND filter. 12-35mm lens (I forget aperture, maybe 4?) Graded. Yes, there is a lot wrong here, I'm no pro, but the EASE of getting this the way I wanted it... it's just heaven! The car red is tad wonked, I tried to tone it down in post - it was blown out but in the quick pass video, no one will notice or care, but the car IS bright, wet, liquid wax buffed red.

I also just came from the Canon t3i. I'm blown away by the GH4's video so far. Good luck with the project!

Yes, hands down its the best camera I have ever used. If you take into the account the price and quality and the fact that its shock full of futures. Its the little engine that could ;)

The Gh4 rocks. If you film while the sun is up or light your scenes it's an amazing camera.

heh... the last 2/3's of this project is all dark night outside and low light in interiors but with lighting. We'll see if I am still singing. :D

There's already better cameras out there, but I FINALLY got one that can shoot REAL HD, let alone 4K. T3i was just LIES.

Nah, was gonna make the jump to Samsung NX1, but decided to stay with the GH line.
The next jump I make will be onto GH5.

Yeah, I've been totally happy with my GH4 so far.

You can tame the CineD noise issue by either living with higher noise-reduction in camera or using NeatVideo in post. Either way some form of noise-reduction has to be applied to obtain clean images.

DOes the incamera NR do good? What would be good for dark night shots with lighting? Maybe +2 NR? I don't have NEATvideo

I haven't tried low-light NR yet, but generally in camera noise-reduction removes detail and may make skin look a little "plasticy" if too much detail is removed. NeatVideo does a much better job in post, but it can take quite a long time to process your footage.

I'm loving my GH4 as well. Best camera I've owned (and I owned a RED ONE MX).

Also, low light is not a problem at all for my GH4... I use a lens that opens up to f/0.95 ;)

James, I'll be using sigma 1.8 and canon 1.4... do you think that will cut it? Also have a chinese speedbooster that DOES increase light

f/1.4 should be enough for most lighting conditions. A speedbooster would only help.

I've found that shooting at ISO 800, 1/40 sec shutter speed gives me plenty to work with, with minimal noise. Bump it up to ISO 1600 if you have to, but no higher than that. If that's still not bright enough, then the venue needs more light... or you need a Sony A7s. But then that one's almost $1000 more, and you need an external recorder (more $$$) to capture in 4K.

Thanks for the info. My goal is to push the GH4 in dark as much as I can with gear I own. Got tons of lights, but the object is to film lots of dark shadows and film in teh dark of night. I will be lighting the crap out of things and darkening in post, but I want to try to skim the darker reaches of the GH4. I think with lighting, I'll be able to hit ISO 400 and maybe 200 here and there, but I don't like 1600 at all. We'll see how it goes.

k, KNOW THIS, I hesitate to post this up for all the mocking it will take, but *I* had tons of fun making it! So, shaddup! :)

I too owned a RED ONE, and while that cam sometimes made better images, the GH4 shows Moore's law alive and well in all things semiconductor... and the camera boots in about a second!

I'm not trying to belittle the GH4, as I think it is a valuable tool in my kit. But to be honest, I tend to look at cameras now a little differently than I did a few years back. To me cameras have become the new expendable that get replaced every 18 months. No love, no hate, just a tool.
