LoveFest Rules

Not sure what you mean exactly - but if you're asking can people work on more than one film, then yes - they can.
Score! works for me :) and yes that's exactly what I was asking...sorry it's been a long day of doing nothing but stare at this forum all day long (it's normally really dead at work on fridays and I'm out of editing projects until sunday!)

Okay, I'm not trying to stir the fire here, but the term "inanimate object" still leaves room. Take John Carpenter's Christine for example. While Christine is a car, in a sense she and Arnie in it are in love, and bond with each other, and protect and need each other. This might sound like I'm joking, but I think I bring up a good point.

Also, what about two people falling out of love (War of the Roses)? Or a loss of love (Solaris)?

I think this was addressed in page 2 of Barry's Guide to Love (thread):
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=116278

I'm sure this is ok ... but just to put it out there since your list only mentioned inter-anthropomorphisized thingy love ... What about trans-anthromopomorphisized love of a human for their robot, dummy, blow up doll, or even table lamp, that they think or hope is either real or capable of returning their love. I.E. King Kong or ...

A.I. / Pinochio

or Mannequin

or

Lars and the Real Girl
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/

I don't want to get into splitting hairs here, but yes, something along the lines of AI or Lars... or Pinocchio would be valid themes.

I think they want to avoid someone "loving" their car in a typical fashion "damn, man, I frickin' love this car." But are open to some kind of weird or romantic projection that explores the type of love usually reserved for human relationships. But I think anyone with a non-human love in interest in their story should PM Barry to be on the safe side.

Also, what about two people falling out of love (War of the Roses)? Or a loss of love (Solaris)?

Don't see how this is remotely vague or questionable. Doesn't say anywhere that people have to be falling in love. They can be in love. Be falling in love. Be suffering from unrequited love, be in love but not know it, be going through the motions of love, be falling out of love, be suffering from future, past or present love -- at least as I read it. Don't think I'm missing anything, but maybe.

I have a question. a top contender for my short film's title uses the "f-word" in it as seen in the poster mock-up below. i want to be sensitive to those who might be offended by that and ask for a little guidance on acceptable usage in poster art, thread titles. the word would actually appear in the title with an asterisk in place of the letter "U".

the word, fortunately or unfortunately, bears actual significance in its usage. i say this because I want you to know that it is not solely meant to be provocative; although I'd be lying if i didn't cop to some.

obviously, i want to be true to the integrity and spirit of the film, but i also acknowledge that this is dvxuser.com's film fest, not mine. so i can't go around freely plastering obscenities about.

anyway, kind of thinking out loud here. advice?

What's wrong with the asterisk?

I don't think it takes away because people assume its there for "the man" (in this case DVXuser) not because the artist prefers it.

And you know since our films have a hard R limit you can cuss it up a storm in the film, and have it appear in the credits of the film, etc.

Dunno what the big deal is. Or maybe I am playing right into your hands publicity wise :)

ha, ha. no, no, no... i guess i'm thinking specifically about posting the title of the film in the thread title and in my sig. that sort of thing. and wanted to know if the asterisk made it "clean" enough to do so. didn't want to move ahead without clearing it.

ummm..how about a narrative filmy music video on a hindi hiphop song about a maid's love for her master...
can qualify?

Question, are we allowed to post footage that has been cut from the film? (From a scene that has been completely cut)

Sounds pretty cool to me. As long as it's made for the fest and includes the required element and otherwise meets the rules--you're good.

Can I use the XH A1 ? I remember past contest had the DVX only stipulation but don't see that here.

EDIT: Nevermind, I must read slower LOL -

Good to see all cameras this time - Red Camera has blurred the line - think we'll take 24p anyway it comes.

Is it permissible to host BTS footage on a public hosting site (dailymotion, youtube)? It doesn't mention the movie itself or do anything to promote it, but I've been told to check in here.
