C200: Let's give Canon a list of items that should be fixed in the next firmware update!

I remember with the C300 MK II, when you were in LOG2 and you had a big contrast/bright area in a majority dark picture, there was a horizontal "streek/band" that came from the bright area and went across the dark area. It was just an anomaly and went away once you applied a LUT to it.......I believe it was addressed with a firmware update.

Fingers crossed.

16. When C200 is in dual recording mode, file name and numbers are not identical
When dual recording, the footage from slot A is off by ten file numbers from slot B. They should be identical as that is the whole idea behind dual recording, you can have two editors working on the same footage or could have one backup to replace footage if the card or media becomes corrupted.

the footage from slot B is off by 1 ,so if slot A starts at 1,2,3,4,5..etc slot B starts at 2,3,4,5,6...etc

file names in mp4 are MVI_xxxx.mp4 with x being a number. the problem is in the numbering in dual slot recording.
in dual recording i would expect that i get a duplicate in slot B of what is recorded on slot A.
Two things are hapening.
first off the naming of the folders are different in slot A and B for example 106-1212 and 107-1212 , 106/107 are the folder/reel numbers and 1212 the date recorded this makes slot B a different reel not a duplicate!
but worse the filenumbering inside the folders go off by 1 as well.
So if the first of 5 clips in 106-1212 (slot A) is named MVI_0001 followed by 0002,0003,0004,0005, the clips in folder 107_1212 (slot B) are named MVI_0002 followed by 0003,0004,0005,0006.
so the clip in A that is named MVI_0001 is named MVI_0002 in slot B, the clips are the same just named differently.

Added this detail to master request list on page 1

Do we have a contact in Canon to send this list to? Is it worth getting this over to them soon, it's a pretty big list at this point.

We don't need to send it to anyone, it's already been browsed and has been monitored by multiple Canon USA employees and possibly some Canon Japan employees. I have had discussions off-line about some of the points with them. Trust me, this entire forum is monitored by Canon. That's why Change.org petitions are a waste of time and resources. Placebo to make people feel like they are like Martin Luther, nailing a copy of his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church. Unnecessary in our situation.

As much as I want to believe in the all seeing eye, I sent the list to my Canon contact in sweden just in case. Please send to the contacts you have and maybe they'll get a move on.

For those of you not in the U.S., I think sending the list to your country's Canon distributor is smart. We want the mothership in Japan to hear back these requests from all over the world, not just from Canon USA. But as far as Canon USA, I know for a fact they are monitoring this list.

Good to hear! Hopefully we've made an impact! :)

I have the same horizontal streaking issue on extreme contrast scenes like was posted. Hopefully it will be addressed.

I'm getting the runaround from Canon on the hdmi output issue and they claim after reading the thread on here that they don't act on issues reported on forums. So unless we can get someone from Canon to commit to looking at our list I'm not hopeful anything will get done about it.

C100 you could add peaking to Magnification, so they both came on at the same time. This was the only way I used to check critical focus and was mapped to the handle. Now I have to press two buttons to turn them both on and they are on the side.

Also, not sure if this can be fixed, but for some reason when I'm using non-AF lenses (vintage Nikors), I loose the option to enable "Focus Guide." This is odd because with a lens that has AF, I must shut off AF in order to allow "Focus Guide" to be active. Doesn't this feature work by analyzing pixels, and not anything to do with the hardware?

We posted this list quite a while ago and basically none of the isues have been addressed since then. Therefore, I think we are stuck with what we are stuck with as far as these issues. In a way, no hope about them addressing it is good. Not good that they didn't care enough to take care of their customer base who requested these but good in the sense of if you are a new buyer, know that the C200 has these limitations and likely will have them for the foreseeable future. Most can be dealt with and lived with. I do. Some of them have almost hosed me on a few shoots but if you are aware of the issues, you can at least address them and work around them. Or just go buy a different camera, that's always an option.

I am surprised that Canon does not have menu item that allows automatic peaking for magnification. I used to use it in conjunction with B/W when I magnified. Now that I am using DPAF for telling me if something is in focus, I almost never use magnification so I guess I didn't notice the option was missing.

As for the focus guide on manual lenses, you will need to trick the camera into thinking you have an EF lens attached. To do this, get a Nikon adapter with a focus confirmation chip attached. The one that I found works the best is the very latest version of the EMF chip that allows you to input the aperture from f/1.1 to f/64. Any of the older chips will definitely not be recognized by the camera. I am not even sure if the C200 will recognize the newest chip, but it works with the C300II. The key to making it work with DPAF is to make sure you have the aperture and focal length input set correctly so that the DPAF focus guide is actually giving you accurate information. The DPAF information actually depends on the aperture setting, it isn't just a reading of the relative contrast. I suppose that is why Canon doesn't allow it to be used with non native lenses.
