C200: Let's give Canon a list of items that should be fixed in the next firmware update!

- Clear up/solve the strange behaviour of the HDMI out when attaching monitors. (Various LCD monitors working fine with other Canon C cameras, won't display certain a frame rate e.g. 25p or anything at all coming from the C200).

FTP transfer only allows SD/MP4 transfers - but is NOT available for use with the Cfast cards....

Wouldn't it take quite a while to FTP 256 or 512GB? I can put it in the request list as long as it could be done with firmware and isn't a hardware limitation.

Added this to the list.

Yeah don't bother - I was trying out the various network options - I had thought I could select cfast as a destination for MP4 recording - perhaps that's the feature I'm actually missing :-P

Timelapse in Raw so we can get 15 stops! Timelapse is not very data intensive and being forced to switch to MP4, 8 bit, 4:2:0 when shooting timelapse is silly. If the camera can shoot 4k at 60 fps Raw, why can’t it shoot it at 1 fps??

It would also be nice to have the ability to turn off the LCD to save power when shooting with critically low power. I realize you can just unplug it but it would be nice to be able to have a digital option to turn it off (like an energy saving standby mode or something).

See #9 on the request list, way ahead of you here ;-)

Done.

More suggestions/requests guys?

Interesting, I met with some Japanese engineers from a competing company yesterday and we actually got into a specific discussion on what makes DPAF so good and how the "Face Only" setting on the C200, when it works, is so useful. They took copious notes. Who knows if it will be possible but I can tell you that Canon's competition is studying and looking at DPAF and AF with Phase Detection and will be eventually catch up and Canon will need to step up their game in other areas.

Canon's one big advantage is that they already have the hardware, so they could easily work on the software to make it even better. Let's see if they've learned that lesson.

Am I correct that you cannot input an XLR microphone to Ch1 and still have internal mono mic assigned to Ch2? Assuming that is fixable in firmware, that would be hugely convenient.

I've seen one issue that may or may not be fixed in firmware.

When filming scenes where the side of the sensor has large contrast, very light&dark areas, it seems to send a "streak" over the whole picture, seen in the shadows.

I don't recall seeing this with the C100, nor with my GH5.

This is MP4 only, we haven't got CFAST so can't try with raw.

Fixable in firmware? Well maybe, since I remember FS5 could fix some of it's sensor bugs afterwards.

Have you guys seen the same streaks?

EDIT: Have now tried with two C200 cameras, and the issue seems to go away on ISO 800, but visable in various ISO's over and under.

Not sure if my monitor is adjusted incorrectly or something. I don't see any "streaks" in your first example. I see one in the slow motion ISO 640 on your second clip. Not sure what this would be called other than in the CCD days, we called this smear. I think you would need to set up on a tripod, in a controlled environment and really show if this is being caused by the sensor or if this is internal reflections from your lens, which is a thing. No use trying to fix what might not be fixable, depending on what causes it? Camera on sticks, dark room, flashlight would probably cause it and be much more repeatable and recognizable. I would also try to reproduce it with at least two or three different lenses. To me, it looks like an internal lens element reflection rather than an imager but it's possible its the imager?

Try downloading original Prores and have a closer look, especially on the second link where it's clear that the phenomenon is not caused by lens. Different ISO and it's gone magically.

When dual recording on sd the numbering is off by 1 between the 2 cards.
when 10 shots are taken and on 1 card the file numbers will be mvi0030 to mvi0039
on the other card it will be mvi0029-mvi0038.
Why is this and can it be fixed in firmware.

What Athan describes is true. Switch between ISO800 and ISO640 it's like turning the streaking line artefact on and off. ISO800 being the one without the artefact.

I remember with the C300 MK II, when you were in LOG2 and you had a big contrast/bright area in a majority dark picture, there was a horizontal "streek/band" that came from the bright area and went across the dark area. It was just an anomaly and went away once you applied a LUT to it.......I believe it was addressed with a firmware update.
