"Lesson in Life and Death" - A Day 7 Studios production

Grabs will be coming soon. I just got the footage from Larry, and loaded into my Avid. I'll begin the edit in the next few days, and hopefully get Larry some high res grabs before then.

Just posted some frame grabs to the front page ... here they are again (so you don't have to click back):

Thanks for the comments everyone .. glad you are liking what you see so far. I'm going to be a nervous wreck until I hear what people think of the finished film, so it's good to hear some positive feedback in the meantime.

I took the grabs I've shown previously and applied the color grading I want to use, I didn't color correct them first, just applied the same filtering to each using Photoshop. This is just a guide for when we edit, but I like how they turned out, so throwing them up to show (click them for the full size version):

As Larry mentioned I started looking through the footage yesterday, and am doing the hard-core edit on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (if necessary) night and get the final cut to our sound/score team with a good week to complete.

Finished the first full cut tonight. Larry will review in the morning and send any notes he has. I am hoping to deliver our final cut to the sound/score team by tomorrow night, or at the latest Friday night.

This project has presented some unique editing challenges and it's been a blast!

The grabs look great. How do you like editing someone else's footage? Larry did you tell Brandon which takes you liked etc. beforehand?

Well, this isn't the first short I've edited that I haven't directed, however, I am usually on set for anything I've edited in the past, in some kind of capacity that I am able to watch the footage being shot, and offer suggestions, etc. So, it was a bit different since I wasn't on set, but finding shots wasn't difficult because everything was slated, and Larry graciously logged the shots for me in an excel document! (thanks Larry!)

Well Brandon worked his magic and pulled a very nice cut out of our footage. I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out. Looking forward to seeing the other pieces come together as well.

Alan - will do. They did a great job setting out a nice spread. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. I wanted to make sure you were all taken care of considering all the hard work you were doing.

Cool, sounds like Larry was really organized so that's the key. Larry good luck with the CC, the photoshop roughs look great, you might want to pull back a touch on the contrast to save some detail in the highlights.

I was fairly organized, but I could have used a lot more. I actually got sick and lost about two weeks of preproduction time, this made production a bit tougher, but we made it through.

I can tell you I have learned a tremendous amount on this project. And that really makes this whole project worthwhile. Don't misunderstand, I'm very proud of what we have accomplished here, but as an aspiring filmmaker I can see many areas of needed growth and how I can accomplish that growth going forward.

There is still a lot to be done, but it's in the hands of very capable people. I'm excited with what we've accomplished so far and anxious to see the final project roll out.
