LCD Viewfinder for 5D Mark II

Oi... why does every manufacturer of one of these things assume that EVERYONE wants to shoot video at FACE height.

WTF put a friggin' snorkel out!!!

I'd rather have a 2.5" SD Color LCD with a Hoodman and a Noga Arm than this thing. Hell, add a magnifying glass to it while you're at it.

No one assumes anything. Just an alternative to an overpriced version, and another under-engineered one. Not everybody wants to turn their 5D into a great honking elephant on their shoulder with a an LCD monitor and a snout.

I'm thinking of trying some of those LCD glasses.....I'll look like jordy from star trek and I might get hit by a car but you suffer for your art.

You don't need anything on your shoulder. But the funny thing is that this method is pretty damned impractical for handheld ANYWAY because you'll have to put it on your shoulder.

And stay there forever.

A 2.5" LCD on the hotshoe wouldn't add any sort of difficulty, perhaps power issues but I guess if you just want to keep the camera at your face 24/7 then this is the way to go.

Beats $400 from Zacuto

I am trying to put a budget 5d Mark II rig together, so this viewfinder is the ONLY alternative I've found that isn't pricey.

I would have this on a shoulder rig anyway, so straight back isn't a big deal. But I am concerned that the eycup won't block well enough...

Read more about it on the Blogspot good read on current market situation of LCD viewfinders anyhow

Kholi, as Ive already ordered this 3.6" SD LCD media player I'm eagerly waiting for it to arrive because I have had the first prototype of this LCDVF here on my desk for a few days.

Oh and a nice new render too:

Say, what's happening exactly with that rectangular eyepiece above the frame? How does that fit on?

This has been my secret all the time because for unknown reasons there is about 1mm of free room between the eyecup and the body so one can stick whatever he wants inside.
And in the worst case scenario it will not break the camera body (it might destroy the cheap and replaceable eyecup instead).
The whole underside of this frame around the viewfinder will be attached to the camera by a sheet of adhesive film.
As you see the whole frame is larger than the protective glass of the lcd (not wider but those protruding parts) just so because one could not pop it off when the worst happens and we don't want to ruin your camera.
One can choose not to attach the adhesive film to the LCD and use tough tape instead at the bottom part of the frame (top view) where you can see this edge. But it is advisable that you attach the top frame to the oroginal viewfinder rails and put the eyecup back on but again this is kind of a weak solution and we advise to attach the whole frame.

I have also got something in the works if anyone is interested . . . . $800 - PM me, used sequential notes only, no questions, no police, if I see anyone following you I shoot.

The second picture shows my "magic" part.

The odd thing is that these cameras don't have flip-out screens. I NEVER in 35 years of photography thought I'd say that. It's an old story- I sold all my pro gear by 2001 and have been shooting stills with a point and shoot since. It has a flip out screen that I adapted to behave like a view-finder. One that I can move to all sorts of angles for my comfort and artistic POV. I'm sure the guys that design cameras don't actually use them. Sigh!
