If the end product is for the web or SD DVD, you can crop/pan without losing any significant quality.

BTW Brad...after watching your tutorial yesterday, I figured out the one little piece I was missing and it all fell into place....
The results are outstanding...perfect slowmo....
Thanks again...
So which part were you leaving out?
EDIT: And BTW...your VO sounded fine, quiet, soothing, friendly...
Thanks man.
From top to bottom.....
HDV 720-24p
Progressive (obviously)
23.97fps
8-bit
Best rendering quality
Gaussian blur
Blend fields
Adjust source media to better match project was left checked
All native .mts files were rendered out to Sony YUV 60p (uncompressed) intermediates using proxy stream scripting. Those files were then dropped into the 24p timeline where each clip was slowed to 40%, creating the really slow and smooth overcranked effect. Some crossfades and pans thrown in for some effect.
Everything was then rendered out as MainConcept AVC H.264, 16Mbps, Best quality, 720p, and 23.97fps.
If I left anything out, let me know.
Brad....that was amazing quality. Questions?
I have the proxy sript.. however..there is NO sony YUV 60p that I can find to convert to.
Also there is no mainconcept AVC H264 option for rendering. cOULD THESE BE CALLED SOMTHING ELSE???
I have Vegas 9 .
Brad..one more thing..why would you deinterlace (blend fields) when it was shot progressive??
Thanks
-I took a Sony YUV pre-made template and made it my own. I went in and changed the settings, and then saved it as something else. Voila, new template.
Got ya..I will try that.
-There are two AVC (.mp4) rendering options.....MainConcept and Sony. I use MainConcept. They're both in the "save as type" drop down box when you choose to render.
Yes,, I see those options...but not the codec H.264 you are refering to. Could you be more specific. Man if you could post a tutorial
The Mainconcept AVC .mp4 option automatically use .h264, as does the Sony AVC option. It just doesn't say it for some reason, but when you render using either of those, it uses .h264 as the codec.

And I find that (I saw it in yours as well) if you leave the deinterlacing checked..you will get a gost image on some moving shots. Dont check it and it goes away. Because its trying to deinterlace a progressive video.

Brad.. Sorry to bother you again..however I have spent an hour try to do this and there is just no way using the any of the Sony options in the custom to change to 60p. There is a Sony MXF option that has a 60p. I am sorry but none of the other options do. Maybe im just an idiot...LOL
I really want to be able to render like you...but everything you are saying is just not an option in my version. Could you send me some screen shots???
One more quick question... Do you edit the clips first then render to AVI before you pull them in for final rendering? Or edit them after you turn them into AVI??
