hey all,

does anybody know of a good laptop for the hvx? im looking for something up to around 800-900 euros. Also i noticed that a lot of laptops have a PCMCIA slot type 2.. does that work with the p2 cards?

thanx

Many PCs are moving to ExpressCard slots as well. Much faster.

I use the duel adapter with the MacBook Pro and get a 3 minute download for a 5.25 Gb p2 card volume

going back to the original post, I would also ask for some advice on what a good laptop for the HVX200E would be. Either Macs or PCs.
What should be important for the laptop to have,

PCMCIAs slots? I guess.
USB (if PC) and Firewire (if Mac), and
1. What video card will work well with the P2 material?
2. How much RAM?
3. The main storage will surely be done on another hard Disk, but what would be good to work well (let`s say, cut 3 hs 720PN into 56 minutes 720p) ?
4. What if we want to use the laptop to have a rough HD monitor, we would probably need a HD screen?

Too many questions, I know, but I guess it may give us a good idea of what to look for, and the Pros the chance to compare their views.
Thanks in advance for repplies,

I have an HP Special Edition L2000 that I use when I'm shooting on location with my HVX 200. It has an AMD Turion 64 processor, 120 gig hard drive and, of course a PCMCIA Slot that easily takes the P2 Card. This notebook works for me because it can also burn Dual Layer DVD's which is great archiving the data from the 8 Gig P2card. I purchased the computer about six months ago for around 950 USD.

Dell Latitude D830. It has Express card AND PCMCIA type2.....the best of both world! you Can get a decent one for around $1100
I got mine loaded with a 1080P screen, 1.5 gigs, Quadro card, DVD burner etc... for about $1375 (it was a special promotion)

the macbook pros don't have the pcmcia slots. If I'm shooting with multiple cards I just want to be able to dump the cards on a laptop. Is there a recommended pcmcia adapter that plugs into the express slot?

posted my older (just replaced) Toshiba laptop w/DV Rack 2.0 HD in the marketplace.

Are you giving up your coveted copy of DV Rack? Wow! That is a bonus considering they don't make that as a stand-alone product any longer.

So you must be an Adobe user.

Yep -- that's what I was thinking. And, it will (DV Rack HD) record the AVI for import to Avid which is no longer a feature in CS3 Production Premium under the new "On Location" banner.

Yes, I have (and use) Premiere, Broadcast, and XPress Pro . . .
