how to improve capture voice quality?

I am using an Azden shotgun to capture the voice of the actors and I want to know if it is possible to improve sound quality in post. Any filters? Any software?
Really needing help right now!!!

What is it you don't like right now? Just the overall quality, or is there noise, or is there background audio you want removed?
Maybe you could post a short clip, and we could listen to it.

There is software that can "help" in most cases, but please be more specific. Have you already done the recording?

I am able to capture the voices with much noise and the background sound is ok. I thought that maybe there was a way to improve the quality of the voice (sound) using some kind of software or filter so it would sound more professional. Any help ?

The Apple website has a great tutorial for how to remove noise using SoundTrack Pro...but after the processing it sounds a little 'compressed.'

Best thing you can do is get the mic as close as possible to your sound source while shooting.

Okay, cool, and thanks for the further info: I have to say though it's still quite vague.
Two things: are you talking about audio YOU ALREADY captured, or this question more general, and you want to know how to improve the AZDEN mic in post every time you use that mic?
2. Are you on Mac or PC?
3) Budget?

First thing: if this is a general Question, you'd probably be better off getting a better mic, and like the other person suggested, get in CLOSER.
If this is for already captured audio, it will depend on the second point (Mac vs. PC). On PC, there's ADOBE's Audition (and fear NOT, it was NOT an Adobe product before. It was called Cool Edit 2000). Here's a video showing noise reduction:

They might have a try out download on their website (adobe.com), so that you could see if this is what you are looking for, and fits your budget.

Thank you all ! Well, I am using a pc here. I know Azden is not the best choice but my budget is low, really low. My mic is mono and I believe it wont help me that much. I have watched movies with also low budgets and they had a very good sound quality mainly in the voice part, voices sound clear and close to those you hear in theaters. I only thought that maybe there was a special way to treat it after capturing it. Anyways, thank you for your help, this community is really great.

Well, don't forget that MANY here use top-notch microphones, even though the budget for the production is low.
But the microphone itself is only a part of the "problem": your single most important and easiest way to get better sound, is to get the microphone CLOSER!

A cheap mic that is very close to the actors (up to 1m) is FAR better than a GOOD mic that is 4m away. (This is simplified, but you get the idea.)

Oh, and by the way, mono is just fine; there's VERY few that record dialogue in stereo.
I would recommend you save for some LAVALIER microphones; those are the small mics that go ON the actors. You can get them wired (cheaper) or wirless (more expensive but more convenient --- no wires going from actor to cam).

ADDED: oh, I forgot to mention that, depending on how you operate your mic now, you could possibly get better audio from it, by getting IT closer. Maybe get a friend to operate it from a boom pole.

Best of luck...
