Just got a new camera - Sony F35

OK, so my camera was sent to service. I hope they can tell me today what was wrong with it.

Edit: it was fixed in a day. All they told me was there was a short and it is working again.

I have to post pictures of two very smart ways of mounting the AJA ki pro quad and the hyperdeck shuttle that this rental company have built. They were suprinsingly simple but very solid and effective, specially the hyperdeck version, where it gets attached directly to the back of the camera and gets power from it without external cables. Yes they had to drill through it, but who cares. :D

And 3rd topic of discussion. Definately the F35 loses dynamic range and noise level increases when setting it up to 50p. Has anyone read anything regarding this on the manual?

• GAIN: Gain Compensation mode
When you change the frame rate, the electric gain is
automatically corrected, retaining the video level.

The current shutter angle setting is maintained.

I've never had any change in dynamic range, and no extra noise in 50P.

LeavingTheCandy you might be on to something, as I've switch all modes of HFR compensation off, and had no issues with noise nor DR.

I've seen this on two different cameras but maybe it is a setting as you are suggesting. I saw however that when I enable 50p the dr LCD menu shows 640% instead of 800%. Same for you?

Mac: did you say the company are renting out F35 docked with Hyperdeck Shuttles?? I'm curious as to what company that is and the rental rates too if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

Yeah, the rental was in Europe.

Regarding 50p, we need further investigation on this.

BTW, the quality of the Odyssey was really nice in terms of brightness and use (much better than the Gemini) but the image re-scaling (I presume from 1080p to 720p) was really ugly, lots of aliasing. I didn't have more than 2 minutes with it but I couldn't find a setting to fix this. Maybe Mitch could help us here.
I didn't record anything with the unit. Actually I did record something but I didn't bother to open the files. No time. :D

any conclusions from all the recorders you tested? also very curious to see the hyperdeck mounting solution!

Just got my cinedeck screen replaced, and now using it again (hello 50P! hello 444!).
Seems footage shot cineform on cinedeck is flatter/less contrasty compared to Black magic hyper shuttle 422?

But with the arise of the 7Q, I'm thinking the Cinedeck is becoming redundent. Love the way the 7Q recognises the signal input change automatically.

They sent me these pics but I'm not sure how this unit attaches to the back of the camera.

MAC

That unit would obviously attach to any V-Lock plate if one were on the back of the interface box (where they normally are)

And another one bit the... bullet

And another one bit the... bullet

Hello Everyone,

I've been an ardent reader of this thread for the past few months. I have literally read every single post on this thread (and now the recently created other sections dedicated to the F35) from the first one where Macgregor teased the readers with the beautiful images of his F35. I have fallen in love with the way this camera captures light. I am a former Red One owner myself (an early adopter actually, way back in 2008). I was amazed by the resolution and detail of that camera, but never of the look. Well now, many years later, wanting to focus more on the beauty of light and less on the extreme detail of things, I am excited to say that I have finally bit the bullet and purchased an F35.

I think I got a very good deal from Otto Nemenz and am confident, based on their reputation, to receive an excellent condition complete F35 package (minus the SRPC-1 and SWR-1) sometime next week.

As present and future owners may imagine I am now in the process of putting together all the different components necessary to get the thing to turn on and shoot something. I am planning to order the Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q with a 256GB SSD and the Switronix battery plate (the F3 version).

Now I have a few questions I hope current users can help me out with. I do not have any V-Mount batteries and so I am thinking of the ikan IB-TR190S (190 Wh). Do you think this is a good battery for the price? Do you have any better suggestions in this price range? Of course I will need to get a charger as well.

Also I was reading this article (http://www.fdtimes.com/2009/12/04/style-your-sony-f35/¬) and a post here (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?318539-F35-Beginners-How-do-I-power-it) where there seems to be a Sony battery plate that connects directly to the IF box. Since the ikan battery has a D-tap socket on the battery itself (to power the Odyssey) I could possibly save some money and weight avoiding the Switronix battery plate. Does anyone know where I can find this Sony battery plate?

Regarding the D-Tap to the Odyssey is there a less expensive cable to the D-Tap to Neutrik Power Adapter Cable (36") which they goes for $75?

Will two Canare HD-SDI Video Coaxial BNC to BNC cables work to get 10bit (hopefully 12bit soon) 444 to the Odyssey at 24fps?

Finally, I am probably going to need to get the Nikon mount front plate as PL lenses are so expensive. However I would like to keep the PL mount for the future (who knows, I might win the lottery and buy a set of Cooke Panchros one day). Would someone here have an already made Nikon front plate or an extra PL one for sale? Please PM if you do. Thank you.

That’s all for now. When I get my baby I will post pics.
Thank you all for the incredible wealth of information you have written and organized here.

Igor

I would just go with the switronix battery plate, has two p-taps and add one more if your battery has one. The sony one is hard to find...
You can find cheaper batteries online ( even chinese ones ) if you don't mind. I'm sure you're paying the price for the LCD on the ikans.

Mac has an extra nikon front plate for sale :-)
