Jibs VS Sliders

We're all aware you can buy a 14ft ProAim Jib for about the same price as a 1m slider.

Im kinda struggling here, I've heard that you get a bit of wobble from the Jib, unless you
have the pan & tilt head to weigh it down. So that bumps the price up to about £500.

I am yet to find a motorised slider that costs £500. I hold my breath for Jag35's release.

But I dont know which one to get. I dont mind having a smaller jib (12ft pref.), but I cant
afford both.

I do know they serve seperate purposes, but I would like to know what you would buy and why

Help?!

The slider is going to be a better investment than a cheap jib. A cheap jib is much harder to keep smooth and stable.

Portability is certainly a concern, but it's really about which one you can get on a budget and still expect performance. If you have a need for a jib, that's great... but if you're going to buy a jib then put some money into it.

A slider, on the other hand, can give you tons of "bang for the buck".

you wont get into a smooth, workable, DEPENDABLE jib rig (legs, head, monitor, remote controls, dolly. and you WILL need ALL of these) for less than about $3500
and no. youre not going to find a motorised slider for under £500. i say get the kessler bloom model and build on it as your bank account allows...

you can kind of fake a slider move with a jib. but it will take some work to get right.

Are you planning on operating either by yourself? The Jib obviously is a bigger beast to manage and if you're low on crew, carrying all the gear and then assembly it on your own can be daunting. A slider, on the other hand, can be much easier to transport, setup, and operate on your own.

Normally the shoots I do, I have extra sets of hands, however, the shoots that I require either a jib or slider for, I probably wont have those hands.

Im shooting a series of low budget extreme sports shorts, and I really want movement from the camera (:

The slider is going to be more versatile, in my opinion.

Where are you based in?

Im based in England (:

In reply to the "DIY" comments. Although I would love to save the money, clients dont really understand that we get the same results. A previous client I had asked be before signing a contract as to if I was "one of those shooters who make all their kit from scratch".

So, although I would happily build my own, my clients wont be so happy.

Are you familiar with PEC Video? They're in London(83 Charlotte Street to be specific :p)
They carry our Atlas 10 and Atlas FLT sliders (both in the £400 range) - they should have
stock/demo unit to try out :p PEC + Atlas FLT
