With the cheap T2i now out I'm starting to see an onslaught of idiotic footage on Vimeo like "My Wife Checking The Mail" or "Test footage of my neighborhood". Do people really need to upload stuff like that? It's driving me nuts. End rant.

Get a life dude, people are free to record what they want. The only problem is people like you worried. I say give everyone a camera, the ideas and creative concepts is what's going to prevail not image quality. I'm not scared because I know my talent is in story telling.

Let people post a million videos, I'm still going to do me

peace

I have to agree. And wait till scarlets are everywhere then it will be full of idiotic slo mo footage at 120 fps !

everyone is in a band... everyone is a filmmaker... yeah know... there still has to be quality to the art that is getting played/shown for it to really matter. the images might look great but still, story must be there

Hello!!! The T2i will start an onslaught of idiotic footage on Vimeo? Please check out Vimeo more thoroughly and while you are at it check You Tube also and you will be surprised, the idiotic footage is already there, the only difference is now it will have shallower DOF.

LOL!!! thats true! but jeez! even during the onslaught of cheap 8mm cameras in the 60s to 70s it was already the case! people dreaded being at a party then the host invites everyone to the study to view his latest "home movie" then the lights go out and the projector starts to whirl!
Here we go again! the shaky flickering footy at 16 fps!

Technology empowering the masses has both good and bad sides. Buts thats life..

But in all my professional career working in advertising, a client NEVER asks me what's my camera or equipment, they always ask how I would TELL the STORY.

@Tears2040...seem kinda mad buddy.:Drogar-Angry(DBG): sh!tty footage is everywhere....the t2i will just make more. it's ok.

NO....not mangos???!!!! Well...anything but pet videos...or flowers..or trees...or oceans..or fill in the blank (______).

I'm with you Marlontorres.

Do you watch American Idol? Most people have that mindset until they get a dose of reality. They get their hands on the newest camera and they think they're the next Spielberg. If you have any films/video that I can watch, I'd be happy to see your "talent" at work. Besides, what do I have to worry about? I already consider myself successful at what I do.

I like turdles.

Getting the 7D next month. I'm going to film my wife eating mangos.

Yes but if your going to post those videos here there had better be a story, steadycam, jib and rack focussing and your wife should be naked!

Then someone MIGHT give you feedback,

I don't have anything particular against it, I just think it can be annoying if you are looking for footage to learn from and then have to search through hundreds of videos until you find something appropriate.

Other than that I love the idea that almost everybody can get hold of a camera to make movies without using expensive lighting equipment that might be aesthetically worthy to watch. That way, creativity, persistence and talent will make the difference. That's a very nice democractic idea. :)

the good thing about all the crap footage that will be shot by everyone else , is that when they watch " ours " they will go.... WOW.. more!!!! .. so the more crap footage out there the better!

after the onslaught of 60fps -24 slowmo footage of..... everything!! with added trendy guitar song and magic bullet coloured , i think i am used it all now.

Well there's always a high trash to treasure ratio in anything. That's especially true with video. I'm certainly guilty of posting glorified home videos but that's only because it's the wedding off season and I'm practicing.

Anyway, the crappy footage is still useful to watch if you're trying to decide on what lens to use for your productions so it's not a total waste.

I don't have a problem with people doing tests when comparing different lenses. Thats useful and informative. Those aren't crappy footage.

On the other hand, watching "Bob" recording his wife getting the mail is a bit different. The reason I went to Vimeo is because YouTube had been overrun by trash like this but now, I'm starting to feel like Vimeo is becoming the new YouTube.

Also, I don't know if I would judge a lens if the camera man is obviously a novice which is often the case for the said "crappy footage".
