Iscorama Anamophic Lens Test

According to

http://lavender.fortunecity.com/lavender/569/anamorphic.html

and some other sources across the interwebs the KOWA 16-H (or 8Z as it was known in Europe) is a very good option among the multitude of anamorphic adapters.

Of course it is a 2x adapter, which yields a crazily wide aspect ratio, although a sensible one at 1280x540.

I've got one on the way from ebay and will dutifully report back.

Vignetting should not be an issue from 50mm on from what I've read.

52-50mm step down ring required for mounting to, let's say, a Nikon 50mm 1.8.

well just from holding the Sankor up to the 50mm I can tell it won't work with 5D, the FF sensor is just too large so I imagine the Kowa 16-H(8-Z) will be almost the same so unless you are using GH-1 or D90 you will probably need about 100mm+ unless there is something majorly different about it that I am unaware of.

they will vignette a lot less on the 7D. My D90 was ok down to 28mm with the isco 54 which only goes as wide as 50mm on a full frame sensor before it vignettes.

Whats the latest.

Whats the latest.

Sorry I am using a slow internet connection at work and don't have the time or energy to trawl through this huge thread for possible answers. I was wondering what the latest is with the possible supply of new iscorama's?

The new 7D is going to look great with an anamorphic lens I think. Have people found any other 'serious options' to the Iscorama as well.?

No news, yet.
At this time people are still acquiring the older versions (if they can find them) to use.

Too all that have made this post so grand towards the ISCO Adaptor congrats, it is indeed EPIC. Emanuel or CBS have you secured any older or new production Adapters - are they making them yet?????

Also just to confirm: With the Isco Anamorphic adapter all (a 5D user) will then need is the proper step up rings depending on the what the female thread is on the Isco adapter and diopters?

Can anyone recommend good diopters and why we need them with the adapter?

Thanks very much, as a Director / DP everything you guys are doing is really awesome.

PS if you want to watch a fun spot that will re-start your eyes after reading ALL of these posts - watch this... shot this pre-mark ii, but very happy with results.

You need between 3 and 5 step rings depending on how recessed the front glass is on the lenses you want to mount. I'll post a few combo's for nikon ai and pentax super tak glass when I can find the time. You can also use the rings from rubber lens hoods sold on ebay, they are about the length of 3 step rings.

I have a tiffen 1x diopter, hoya should be decent just don't buy a fake one on ebay. B+W make diopters too.

Isco tests

I recently got myself an Isco anamorphic adapter as well (the iscorama 42).

Two quick tests here (Canon 50mm f/1.4 + Iscorama 42, for the car test I used +1 / +2 close-up diopters):

Low light - flare test (the adapter is slightly turned right but nevermind)

I just bought an anamorphic lens off of ebay but I havea feeling it may not work properly with my soon to be gh1 setup.

I bought this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170378876383&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I have nikon mf lenses and canon eos stuff.
Was thinking of getting some longer c-mounts as well but will wait till I get the gh1 next week.

will this anamorphic adapter work with what I have?

I saw "bolex" "1.5x" and "anamorphic" so I felt like I had to jump on it.

mistake? yay or nay?

sorry im an anamorphic noob.

I still have not gotten the correct size step ring for my Sankor 2x adapter because the rear thread is actually an unorthodox 50mm or possibly 50.5mm and the cheap old Albinar FD lens I am using with it is stuck on f/3.9 because the f-stop ring is broken so I had to shoot with a high shutter speed. I am still waiting for the special size step rings from hong kong so here is a test vid just holding the adapter up to the lens, trying to juggle cam and glass and focusing with both.

You can see the vignetting even around 100mm, I'm guessing once I actually am able to screw it in staight it's still going to need to be around 135mm to get rid of it completely. I am pleased with the look though considering the cheapness of the set-up.

Hey Akira! VERY COOL! I think we may want to start a new thread with Sankor Anamorphic footage. :) I don't have my step up rings yet either... :( But I'll try to do some hand held stuff this weekend and post it.
