iPAD AS MONITOR?

except that you have to connect the camera to a computer!
that only makes it worse, imo. bulky and tethered.

Found a free way to do the whole ipad/iphone screen sharing thing.

Here: http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/awilt/story/monitor_your_canon_hdslr_wirelessly/

It's not the same as people here are wanting. This isn;t either but I ordered one today, it lets you watch live tv off your iPad anywhre there is wifi or a 3G signal, you do have to have it hooked up to a base station tho, it's like a sling box for the iPad. I guess you could use it on a movie set that's stationary so the crew could watch on their iPads. It's a lot of work for something like that tho.

They all can but you need a base station or separate box ( I said box, he he he), I think people here are waiting for a cable that goes from the cam to the iPad, small, simple, fast type deal with 'little' compression??? Could be wrong tho.

Perhaps might be a way of doing it thru jailbreaking. I know there IS a solution to view already recorded HD movies on your iPad via the camera connection kit, jailbreaking and 3rd party software.

seems like a hell of a lot of effort when you can buy a proper solution for another $500 or less...

and the way i see it is if you NEED to monitor your video and you cant afford to buy a monitor. you probably didnt need to be spending money on that ipad in the first place...

but maybe i listen to dave ramsey too much ; )

Jailbreak!!!

Jailbreak!!!

We got a new chance to find a solution now!

Anyone found a way to resolve our problem?

just bumping this one up... cant believe there's an app available for hurling birds across the screen but not to tether an ipad2 to a dslr

There's no live video in capability for the ipad.

cant speak for the OP but I just want to be able to see my stills on the ipad2 a second or two after I take em. i dont need the wi-fi (eye-fi) option, just want to use the HDMI cable I have along with the ipad HDMI adapter.

well. its not currently possible. we will have to wait for an ipad with some kind of live INPUT.

eco_bach, I saw that a couple days ago on Cinema5d. Interesting..

I don't know if it was mentioned or not, but there is an app for the Android tablets that allows you to use it as an external monitor. I have an Android tablet but I don't use it as a monitor because I already have one. I may give it a go one day though..

Developed by an old seasoned Windows Mobile and Android developer known as Chainfire. Great guy.
But its VERY specific about hardware to work. The Android tablet must be running honeycomb and have USB host. Also, it is limited to being something akin to EOS Utility on the desktop, only for a tablet (which is actually what it is). That means a slower framerate (15fps?) in the preview window, however you do get the ability to tap and interact to remotely control the camera. That's pretty neat- more useful than just a monitor.
