I wrapped up an interview last night for a documentary and shots like this reminded me why I fell in love with the AF-100. Shot with 25mm Zeiss ZF.

Personally I think with the hard contrast he looks like he's staring into a headlight. Were you putting this guy on the spot ;) ?

Is this better? Maybe I'll work on the yellow highlights a touch more but I really didn't want to go for "true" color but rather something a bit more dramatic looking...

Yeah, i would be weary of using such hard light directly on a talents face. Next time try to bounce that light off of some board or shoot through some diffusion. This is way too intense to make anyone look pleasing.

I shoot so many soft-lit interviews but I really like this harder looking light and the grading in ver#2 is much more pleasing than the first image. Also no argument that shooting interviews with prime lenses gives a look and feel that no zoom or variable lens can match.

Great job with the 25mm ZF!

I like the hard shadow- even moreso if the mood, topic or individual warrants it.

Yes, precisely. Could you elaborate on what the interview was about? Something slightly more natural and may work depending on the subject.

I'll have to disagree, as I happen to enjoy the look of my Cooke 20-100 zoom for shooting interviews very much.

I have to admit, I have never used a lens of that quality and have been limited to Nikon or Canon FD. Being a recent convert to Zeiss/Contax lenses, I'm learning the quality of higher quality glass.

Do you have a frame grab you could post from the Cooke?

Scott

It's an "end of days" prophecy interview about the Book of Revelation. I'm also leaving for Israel in 2 weeks for additional footage in some ancient ruins and old Jerusalem. I'll soften up the image a little but I think you did it too much. I like going for a more dramatic look but sometimes I take a notch too far.
