Important! DVX Leader - Please Read

quality graphic indeed, but i gotta throw this out... putting this style of branding on the films asserts to the uninformed viewer that DVXuser was either the production company that financed/sponsored the making of the film or that it's an entity with rights to the work for purposes of distribution -- in short, it tends to imply a degree of ownership. i know that isn't the intent, but i humbly suggest that a line is being crossed.

wouldn't an "Official Participant in DVXFest" graphic be more appropriate? :)

You make a very good point. I second that.

No, DVXuser does not retain any ownership, etc, etc. (other than the permission you grant to allow potential inclusion of it in a future dvd compilation).

No, you do not have to keep the leader on your film after the conclusion of the fest.

Zak does raise a valid point in that many people will see these films via the fest or (later) our archives of the submitted films.

We will keep archives of all the fest films on dvxfest.com as always. However, the filmmaker, of course, can always request that we remove it from the archives for whatever reason (potential distribution, etc, etc.). Meaning, beyond the run of this fest the no version of your film with the dvxuser leader need exist.

Though, as I said many people will see the films through this site one way or another, and as Zak suggested, the conclusion could be drawn that DVXuser had some hand in the making or in ownership rights of the film with the leader as it currently stands.

As such, at a minimum... if you desire, you are more than welcome to add to the front of the leader "Made for..." or something to that effect to more accurately reflect the intention of the leader (the dvxuser acknowledgement requirement).

If Raptor has the time, then maybe he can make a new version adding that line to make it more "clear".

Later,
Jason

My film is in black and white. I changed the leader to B&W because it did not work being in color. I did not see any rule regarding color change, it seems like It would not be an issue. It is still there and I like it.

I wasn't sure Larry was correct actually - if this was actually legal, so I checked the DVXfest Filmmaker agreement, Article 7, Paragraph 10, Subsection 13.

Here's a copy of Article 7, Paragraph 3, Subsection 9. I've highlighted the applicable text for you in yellow.

Actually ... I went to bed at 10 AM this morning after working straight through from Wednesday morning.

That was a stress reliever. It may look like it took a long time, but you guys know all of that except the yellow was cut and pasted from a boiler plate, right

Check out http://sonnyboo.com if you haven't already, lots of cool filmmaker freebies like boilerplate contracts to download for use on a shoot or for your own amusement.

you need to bring it into the NLE of your choice and re-export.

Wow, could somebody make a tutorial on how the DVXuser leader was made. That would be really cool...
