Important! DVX Leader - Please Read

Larry Rutledge

Fest Master
As mentioned in the rules we have a new rule this time around. Instead of putting a "thanks dvxuser" text plug in your fest entry, we now require you to place a "DVXUser Leader" at the start of your film.

So when we launch your movie we should see this leader and then your movie should start after it. This leader is under 10 seconds and does not count against the 6 minutes you have available for your film.

Special thanks to DVXUser member Raptor365 for putting this leader together. And thanks to Jack Daniel Stanley for designing the audio to go with it.

The provided leader includes audio, but you are allowed to leave the audio out if you choose.

There are two files available use whichever one you want. The provided files are large, hi-def clips - simply resize to fit whatever framesize/rate your final film is and render out as usual.

Here are the two versions of the leader:
edited to add by Jack: FOR REAL MEN AND WOMEN :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):
1) Quicktime HQ ProRes 422 - 23.98 @ 1920x1080 - 100MB

2) AVI - 23.98 @ 1280x1080 - 100MB

(added by jack: this file probably doesn't work for most AVI users.
it's prores422 in an AVI wrapper, working on something different for
those who want a high quality AVI)

3) 1080 9mb

4) 720 6mb

heres a question I have...

Does the size of the leader count towards the 50MB? or is our film just 50 MB and whats the new limit?

Rogan

The film, including the leader, is still limited to 50MB. I know the provided leader is 100MB, but remember it is a full res hi-def animation. When you include it in your timeline and render out with your film it will compress down just like your film does.

It's not so much that we want to stimulate your sense of irony by asking you to download a 100mb leader for a 50mb movie, but rather we were assuming you wouldn't want, oh I don't know, a bunch of banding?

Like Larry says, it will compress with the rest of your movie. Even if we gave you a 1Omb file it wouldn't save you any space or bandwidth because in the end all 6 minutes of your movie gets rerendered in h264. What matters is the length of the file. Not the size. (wait for the obvious jokes ... and moving on)

Also, you're gonna have to upload a 50mb file, downloading a 100mb one shouldn't be traumatic.

But for those of you on dialup, or who like banding, or who are in Thailand *cough cough PK* here's h.264's :D

I just looked at it and the codec is ProRes in an AVI wrapper, which I'm sure most people don't have who would be using AVI's

What code do you guys need that want a high quality AVI?

Maybe a Mod or a User who works with Mac and Windows can download the ProRes.mov and transcode it to whatever windows people need then we can post their version. Don't know if I can do much more with my system.

the apple one doesn't work for me either, im assuming it's also ProRes?

Edit: I can rock the compressed versions so it will have to do for now. Now I just need to shoot my film...hurray.

See... size DOES matter!

Thanks for posting those other versions JDS... they should work fine for any PC users.
(they do for me, Vegas 7.0e)

I downloaded the 100mb QT file and put it in the timeline. I compressed the film and it looks great.

quality graphic indeed, but i gotta throw this out... putting this style of branding on the films asserts to the uninformed viewer that DVXuser was either the production company that financed/sponsored the making of the film or that it's an entity with rights to the work for purposes of distribution -- in short, it tends to imply a degree of ownership. i know that isn't the intent, but i humbly suggest that a line is being crossed.

wouldn't an "Official Participant in DVXFest" graphic be more appropriate? :)
