If you're interested at all in having a RED One camera sometime in 2007, I think placing a RED reservation before IBC is a good choice. After IBC, and the unveiling of the 4k footage, I think that RED orders will double, then triple, then quadruple, and go up geometrically from there. Since they're delivered in order of reservation, the question is: How long do you want to wait for your camera? It's only $1k to reserve one, refundable at any time - not a gigantic risk, I'd say. You'll then have months to raise the remaining funds.

I won't be waiting long. I was one of the earliest ones to reserve a camera (#8).

That was my exact thinking, Gibby. I almost reserved two :)!

I hear ya...I almost did the same, and now I wish I did!

It's Gibby, not Gippy, but no worries, my name gets morphed into a ton of different things: Gilley, Gilbey, Gumby, Globby, Glibby, Biggy, etc. I'm used to it...

I wish I could justify reserving two, but I don't want to reserve unless i'm 100% sure I can afford it.

Besides, I do want to get married someday, and i don't think the future wifey would like living in a bachelor apartment, next to the freeway. "We can eat Mcdonalds for a year honey - my camera needs a new RED digizoom"

then that's not a woman that you want to marry. ;)

Gibby you're #8? that's gotta feel good. By the way I'd change my name to Gumby, just for that extra recognition. :)

Just got my number and I'm #366. I don't know how many they can make, but I'll keep saving my pennies and hope for late '07.

Why do you think i'm still not married yet ? don't answer that ;p

Still looking for that special lady, though. Some women just don't know the importance of depth of field (no pun intended) or think 4K is some kind of a diamond.

Welcome to RED and the ride .

Chalk up another sale Down Under :)

I just emailed off my reservation form today.

Having heard a lot about it initially through HDforIndies, then spoken to various film friends of mine, then hearing the staff at my film school get excited about it, then finding this forum and doing some research into the players behind the company... well, I am convinced that Red One is going to revolutionise the small end of town and in the long run, become part of the big end of town as filmmakers such as myself make superb stories that take us to where the money is, bringing along the cameras we are by then comfortable with :)

Now to find the roughly AUD$30,000 it's going to cost me to get the camera, lenses, matte box/follow focus etc to set up a viable kit to shoot with and rent out.... I have a feeling though that once word of Red starts to spread I'll probably have no problem finding a few joint backers to team up and purchase the thing, especially if production is low volume and it takes time to get each camera up to spec and out the door.

This is a BIG step for me (I don't even own a video camera right now and rent usually) but having worked with other cameras, both digital and film, I can honestly say I think my decision will be rewarded next year when that camera rolls for the first time on my first feature :)

Will update sig once I get my little titanium R.

Insanityfw and Visceralpsyche, Congratulations to both of you! I know how you feel now that you took the first step! I was so excited when I got my titanium 'R' Felt like part of the revolution...

Thanks guys :) I'm pretty excited about it all. Filmmaking for me is a relatively new thing, having had a couple of careers already (pilot, ship driver and computer sales/service among them)! But being a film buff I always had that nagging suspicion in the back of my head that I was in the wrong place. Well, I took a shot, enrolled at the Sydney Film School, made a couple of short films and realised that film is where I probably should have been all along :)

I'm also one of those people who are very much obsessed with getting maximum technical quality out of things like film imagery, sound recording etc, so having used Super16 and HDV cameras I quickly began to realise their limitations (especially when you need SFX in post as well). Red One provides for me a unique opportunity to go from compromised quality footage (due mostly to lack of budget of course!) to top notch, uncompressed 4:4:4 high res where technical compromises will no longer be a factor. That relieves me greatly as it means I can concentrate on telling the best stories possible, knowing that my vision will get the look it deserves, which is after all why we do this!

Hey Zane, that's awesome! You probably get exactly where I'm coming from then re: lack of budgets for films here in Oz....

It'll be good to know the other Aussies with a camera in this neck of the woods. You never know when you might need to call on one at short notice if you have a problem, to save changing workflows etc. Could be very mutually beneficial if that occurs.

Looking forward to finding out if I get in under 400 for camera number!

I'm the proud owner of number 365 :)!

D&G - a little advice my friend - get as many toys as possible before you get married.

:) Hmm, wise words. Whoever has found their ideal woman, who lets them follow their dreams, I salute you, and her.

PS - Jim, out of all the upgrades, how about a RED dating club ? My titanium R is lonely

Rise Of The Red One

Rise Of The Red One

That is my favorite part, what to shoot in the future with 4:4:4 the three 4`s of err, something or other. Seriously though there is going to be some very acceptable shots with the proper lighting.:furious3:

The price tag for the shots in my op. is awesome and final:banned:

This is my very first post so I`m abusing all the smilies:nads:
I`m also a red wannabe.:crybaby:

This may not make me popular, but I have to brag about my wife. She and i have been together for almost 18 years now and she's always been supportive. She let us go into massive debt for my first feature a few years back and even catered the shoot, which she hated. Then after years of recouping from the feature she has given the go-ahead to liquidate our properties and move to a box-in-the-burbs, so that I can get back to filmmaking. To top it all off she's the bread-winner and is still willing to take chances with it. Amazing.

I am completely convinced that I have the best wife in the world. Now, if I could just clone here i could afford to make movies forever.

Best,

Jason

Not to sound hokey, but you're a RICH man, in the best sense of the word.

Buying RED, and setting up the production workflow for it will take some adjustment, for many of us. I hope to find the woman who likes the adventure, though.

Maybe, some day I will be the one jumping on Oprah's couch...

I got married last year (2nd time) and my new wife just loves reading. I am quickly building up a whole range of video books, so there we are nice and cosy together:love4:

BUT when Red 312 arrives she might not be so happy since she will hardly see me as the theory learning moves to practical learning. :(

This year i said to her " we will just stay at home and not have a holiday and have one sometime early next year in California" that put a smile on her wee cheeks i tell you.

Little does she know my main reason for the delayed holiday is to pick up my Red camera when it is ready!!!:)

Well ok i will give her a wee tour of the country since i have travelled all the way from Scotland. Married life its what YOU make of it.

PS: D and G, More advice when you find the right women. Never tell her how much you have er....kept by for emergencies and never tell her how much your camera costs, especially what your next camera costs, same with all the extras. You have to work at this marriage thing you know.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
