C100: If you didn't have your C100...

Don't get me wrong, I don't have any loyalties to any brands (Panasonic, Canon or Sony). I'm a whatever works type of shooter. The C100 is a good camera (it worked well for me on a few projects). I just think as a NEW purchase today, I wouldn't pay $5600 (again, nothing against what anyone else stated and all the comments FOR the C100). Both camera's (GH4 and C100) are solid. It's about your own personal preference. Buy what works for you.

Well, another point to consider is whether you want to buy used. I got my c100 used (very few hours, like-new condition) and got ~$1000 knocked off, plus lots of media, batteries and carrying case included (so around another $500 value).

Whereas the gh4, you're gonna have to wait a while to see it go up used for any kind of real price reduction. That, at least, lessens the gap.

Personally, at this point in time, I would definitely buy another C100. It is a near perfect camera for what I do.

FWIW, coming from the other direction and shooting with a pair BM cameras, if I couldn't shoot with them then I'd pick up a C100.

Just out of curiosity: The 500 does`t have a top handle or a side grip right? Can a C-grip be fitted to it? I´d love the 500's specs, but also to keep it small and ready to shoot as with the C100.
Possible?

C 500 does have a top handle but not a side grip. I rigged a low profile grip to my C 500 and it works well, maybe not as good as the C300 but close enough.

Condolences on the theft, congrats on the re-purchase and keep up the good work (loved the SolarCity piece, wish they'd give me some panels!!!!

C100 vs GH4 is really apples and oranges. The type of work you are doing will determine which one makes more sense. Anything under $10k is a series of compromises. If I were shooting more traditional industrial video, the controls and operation of the C100 would be what I want to have. If I am shooting promo, short kind of work the GH4 seems to work fine for that. Personally, I think you need to approach it project by project. Renting has it's benefits.
