C100: If you didn't have your C100...

It's indeed extremely tempting. It seems to be an investment that one wouldn't need to rethink for upcoming years and years.

That little Canon body with say an Atomos Shogun 7 inch monitor on the hotshoe, give you 4K RAW, and 2K 12 bit 4:4:4 at up to 120 fps. basically does everything one would need in the next few years, including 4K and super slowmotion. I can't imagine how the C300 2K image look at 12 bit color, I can only guess it's glorious!

The C500 with Shogun recorder makes a lot of sense indeed...

I have a C500 and have done some tests of 1080- 12 bit pro res recording to a Pix 240. The image is indeed quite rich and grades beautifully - in my case in FCPX. Even overexposed 4.5 stops I was able to bring the image back to something very attractive looking without any kind of chroma clipping. I had shot a still if with lots of saturated colors, yellows, reds greens, etc and the image held up exceedingly well even with tons of over exposure.

Just the man I'm looking for. How much difference is there with 12 bit 444 vs 10 bit (ie prores hq on the pix)?

Just out of curiosity: The 500 does`t have a top handle or a side grip right? Can a C-grip be fitted to it? I´d love the 500's specs, but also to keep it small and ready to shoot as with the C100.
Possible?

There is a plug for connecting that grip but unfortunately there is no special screw to mount it. However people found some solutions...\

I would go GH4 4k to 1080. I have both and they cut well, equally sharp. The image of the GH4 even against the C100/Ninja is very impressive.

I have gh4, 1dc, c500. gh4 is not in the same league as the 1dc and c500. Is it a great camera? Within it's limitations yes, kind of, maybe, we'll see. A lot of people love it. My attitude about it may improve if Metabones ever gets an ef speed booster happening. The Lumix glass is good, I do not like the bokeh or sun flare on the 12-35. I really want to see what it can do with my efs and cine primes. Canon rules the netherworld. gh4 like bm4k is a daylight shooter.

Krick what a bummer. Really sorry. It's a terrible felling when something gets stolen.

This is a weird time. Kind of in between with Canon and the next batch of cameras that will all be 4K of some kind. The C100 just in price point is also hard to beat. Sure I would rather have the Sony F5 myself but I cant afford it either. So I think another C100 isn't a bad call.

Honestly, I love the C100 but here is what I would do in the OP's position. I would buy a Gh4 and work with it for a year or less while the next wave of 4K cameras will soon be released. The Gh4 holds it's own against the C100 and is relatively inexpensive. It will pay itself off in no time and if you need something else, rent it.

Just remember the GH4 is NOWHERE near the C100 in low light. 800ISO is where that camera shines, anything above that and you've got lots of noise. So if you shoot a lot in low light then keep that in mind.

Plus lots of rolling shutter, worse DR, limited lens selection, and very poor ergonomics.

That said, as a stop gap (and if you want 4k) it could be worse! Even the GH2/GH3 has pretty nice footage, a good look. For controlled environments (and for clients who don't want a big built up box, which the F5 excels at being and C100 is somewhere between) it seems like the best price/performance for sure.

Thats the biggest downside to the GH4. ISO 800 is the max at least for me.

I've shot 1600 and 3200 ISO on the Gh4 to great avail. You just need to dial up in camera NR, just like on the C100.

I don't know about limited lens selection. You can mount just about anything on the Gh4. And I'll say the C100 and the Gh4 are neck in neck in DR.

As Dusty stated, I've had no problem with 1600 and 3200 ISO. I'm using with a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 (Nikon) with Metabones Speed Booster with my Panasonic GH4. Also using a Voigtlander 25mm f0.95. The Tokina and the Voigtlander combo makes low light shooting a breeze. A simple Honu Cage (new version just released today) for $150-$180 takes care of most of the ergo issues. Shooting 4K and down rez to 1080P is solid against the C100!

I do miss my C100 at times, but really for $1700, the GH4 is a steal! I haven't second guessed my decision. Would be nice if Canon joined the 4K party in the $5,000 to $7,000 range. But we all know that's not happening anytime soon.

If you haven't had a chance to use the GH4, you'll be surprised at what it can do. $1700 for internal 4K in camera.....!!!!

All due respect, I'd rather shoot with the GH4 over the C100 any day. The EVS on the C100 is just dreadful, and the camera in general is pretty clunky. I love the DSL our form factor when provided a nice EVF like the GH4 has. I have both, so no fanboyism here. A difference in terms of day to day shooting, is that this C100 has built in ND filters, the GH4 no.

Also, if you are like me and make a living shooting video as well as stills, it's a no-brainer, as the raw files from the GH4, now that Adobe can handle them, are pretty amazing, even better latitude then the Canon 5D Mark III.

I went ahead and got a C100 with dual pixel. Couldn't wait and I can't imagine the Gh4 to come as handy as the C100 with ND, good sound, ergonomics, low lights....

Thanks for all the responses, it helped me validate that this is just a tool, and that's the one I need today.
