If Nikon fails...

i don't moralize. i'm a pragmatic nihilist...

Aha...Ok. Up until now i didn´t even know what "nihilism" means. So i made a google search + find something like this here: http://www.knowledgerush.com/kr/encyclopedia/Nihilism/. Sounds not easy-going + simpel. But you know who you are, that´s fine. I suppose that i´m a couple of years older than you and i´m still surprised sometimes who i am, surely not an "nihilist" (perhaps a bit once in a while). But all that stuff is way too OT here, isnt it... ;-)

who said things have to be simple? for me it's important to question everything and trying to make up my own mind. since i don't think there's any right and wrong built into the world or humankind i'm forced to believe that all that is simply made up, and if so why should i trust it more than my own instincts, thoughts and emotions? it's fine for a nihilist to have opinions, it's just that we know they are just that. i will fight for them endlessly if necessary, but you will never see me refer to any social/moral constructs to support them. i'm 36 btw so i've had at least a few years to think about these things. :-)

ps. nihilism as a political ideology isn't the same thing. that's not what it's about for me, or most people who call themselves nihilists these days.

oh, and that link is heavily biased, and the links and references it uses are pretty worthless (a catholic definition of nihilism? *lol*). even wikipedia is better.

Matt are you following the iscorama thread in the MKII forum? We're making them DSLR friendly.....well attempting to.

who said things have to be simple?...

No one. Its good to have challenges sometimes cause it gets your mind working. But it shouldn´t end up in frustration too often ;-). So, just to smooth the way back to topic => i suppose you also looking for an improved vdslr with manual control, right? Could canon (or perhaps pana) be a possible way to go for you or is your brand loyalty for nikon too strong? Of course, only when canon is able to offer 24p...

There's no going back once you have manual control. I'm about to get a vari-ND filter so I can keep my shutter fixed and my aperture set to the desired DOF, then I can fine tune the ISO and ND.

I also just discovered that I can set 3 custom curve settings onto the mode dial so I can have 3 curves with subtle contrast variations and change them on the fly, it's like a poor man's low contrast filter set.

The open question is: 24p? After 3 days we will know more (september 1st).....

http://www.canonrumors.com/2009/08/eos-7d-press-release/

Video capture features in full HD (1920 × 1080) can choose to 30/25/24 frames per second frame rate, HD (1280 × 720) and SD (640 × 480) can select a more fluid per 60 / 50 of the frame rate.
That´s jaw-dropping :-).

EOS 7D listing dates are expected by the end of September 2009
Í have flogged my d90 on ebay a few days ago (body only). So no long waiting. I will place my order asap. Canon listened while nikon is still sleeping - sorry, but this are the facts. Maybe in a year or so they are able to offer something similar.....!?

I was messing with the D50 at Best Buy. Nice auto focus. This D70 looks nice. I wish my Nikon lenses worked on it!!

Ok, guys, seriously, I have many nikon primes and zoom lenses so I prefer nikon, BUT, how long have we wait for a nikon Video DSLR? ( I already have D90 but now it suks... compare to canon) D300s is perfect for stils but video... it's a big joke... any news about D400 or D700x?
THX

I just pre ordered a Canon 7D...I'll give my D90 to my wife. It seems "If Nikon Fails..." they lose a vidiot customer to Canon.

I am going to hang on to the Nikon primes I bought and get an adapter for the 7D.

well $1900 for the D7 with a lens is a good deal as long as the camera doesn't have problems. As long as it doesn't look like really good video. (we do want that film look right!). The Nikon when done right has a really good look to it.

I'm thinking why didn't NIkon just bring out the D400 now!!

I really think manual control is a big deal. And when I saw the slomotion that the 7D makes with 720p @ 60fps, I couldn't stop my hand from reaching for the credit card. It looks gr8!
