If Nikon fails...

yes the samples look great but then so did Ami Vitales of the D300s. But I have to admit for the price and what the Canon is offering on 7D it will hard not to buy it.

Zim, sorry for that, but what the hell is superior in Ami's video??? where can I download or look at it at 720p resolution?? D300s 's video is very weak for me.... uncomparable to 7D or 5D

NO MANUAL CONTROL!
STAIRSTEP!
720p!

The resolution, dynamic range and color on the Canon samples is way better than the D300s samples. It doesn't begin to compare. Nikon is still miles behind Canon at this juncture.

BTW: The Canon samples look just like film if you compare them to any movies and TV series out there. Nice and sharp like any of them. And with the appropriate DOF when called for.

I never said it was superior did I?

They both look pretty good to me. But I'll still wait to see what people find out when they are out for a while. It is weird how problems pop up if you know what I mean.

ok just said, "pretty good"... I looked the link but the HD is not HD res on that link!!! It is fact that the jello is gona..but not more.
I just said d300s 's video is not a big deal after D90.

What do U think guys, what is the earliest date to anounce D400?

any news about D400 or D700x?
THX

Im thinking a d700s is going to drop within a few months. Full frame video. And Nikon, if they arn't living under a rock, has to be looking around at all these cameras being released with full manual controls in video. My hope is that the d700s becomes the 5d of Nikon line. AKA 15-20 MP, video with manual controls, and if they want to compete, some better codec implementation.

That all being said, I think there are probably a few companies that want to compete directly with RED for when Scarlet is launched. I am predicting we are going to see dedicated, APC sized sensor, interchangeable lens video cameras from almost all the big players, even Nikon. With better codec implementation and a full range of control and features that we know and love on prosumer lines.

Some might argue that no company would spend that kind of money on a "niche" market, but I disagree. Canon for example, has all the tech already. Why not slap an apc size sensor in the xl-h1 body, throw in a couple processors, all the features of the xl-h1 with the bigger sensor. Bingo bango. Even if it was 422 1080p, id be happy. But if they were to go ahead and give an uncompressed RAW output as an option.... It's a good time to be a filmmaker as far as acquiring gear at lower prices goes.

Its going to be an interesting year in the world of video tech.

Dear Zim.

Yesterday I had a one on one D300s demo form a Nikon rep.
I was interested ONLY on the video side of the camera.
I took some footage in order to compare it with my D90 footage.
As a D90 veteran I advice you to skip the D300s.
The video is a D90 quality in a €900 more expensive camera. (again I am talking video only).

My next VDSLR will arrive at the beginning of October..

Thanks.

Johnnie

I've seen some nice video so far with the D300s. I'm sure there will be a lot more. Plus most people say it has improved over the D90.

Zim, U can do nice vidoe with D90 also. The problem is that we want better all the time. D300s 's video is improved over the D90 but not enough improvement. ..just reduce jello and put AF (AF is not important) we need full manual control! and higher data rate, and full HD. Thats all.

In Okt will be a FF body anounce... but who knows?

I was sorely, sorely, sorely disappointed in Nikon. I just preordered a 7D, may keep my glass for a while and use an adaptor. 15+ years of being a Nikonian evaporated in less than a few hours. Which sucks! I hope one day they get on the ball and crank out a killer cam, because I don't think anything can top Nikon's image and bodies.

did you get the 19% off the 7D on tigerdirect yesterday? I should have pulled the trigger, bought the price down to $1380 or so.

:(

jon!

Oh no! That means that I waited for months for the GH1 that never came, then I am about to start the wait for the 7D that who knows when will come to then start the wait for the new bombshell from Nikon? What the heck? Will I ever get any of these new cams in my hands? Geeeezzz....

If we all wish hard enough, maybe it will come true.

Dont know if its related or not, or maybe Mr. Fletcher is investing in a 7d? But he recently put his xh-a1 and letus combo up for sale online. I am sure specs are going to leaked in the coming month. I am willing to put money on it being released before christmas.

New from the Nikon front.

Apperently there are good things coming our way. The blog is also tagged with, yup, d700x.

I am oh so slightly optimistic that Nikon can deliver the goods. They have one last chance as far as keeping with the flow is concerned, the d300s is to Nikon as Death Proof is to Tarrantino. Lets hope they release a basterd.

Snap

I saw that too, but it doesn't say ANYTHING about video. Could be a FANTASTIC stillscamera with D90 video. But if it's supposed to top the D3x with a significant amount, it really would be a FRIGGIN AMAZING stillscamera, as the D3x allready is in a league of it's own.
