well, they were perfectly entitled to not release an almost great *video camera* in the first place.
I agree. When I first saw the D movie quality of my D90 I was very dissapointed. How can such a "quality" come from a DSLR? Shouldn't they leave video alone if they can't do it better? But then there was the excuse, ok it's a consumer camera, it's a first step (I expressed my dissapointment to Nikon (in friendly words) by the way). I sold my D90 and started to wait (for months).
Now the D300s is listed under professional cameras. There was qualified hope that "professionals" will get something a lot better. Who is the video mode in the $1800 D300s body aimed at? Wedding photographers, journalists like the 5DM2? I don't see that stair steps and bad compression fit well. And the in camera movie editing who needs that? Don't pros need full manual controls rather than just Arperture control?
Nikon should have really stepped away from offering VDSLRs unless they can do a lot better. I don't understand them. I love my D700 and I would have loved to put a D300s alongside but as it looks now Nikon will not satisfy my video requirements in the foreseeable future. I can't help but will have to make friends with Canon.
