Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.0 - Another External Recorder Option

First non-beta firmware for Shuttle2 is posted- v2 (from 06 February 2012).

Can someone try it and post small MXF video sample please.

Also- did anyone try to record eg 8 channels of 24bit audio?

Manual does not say a word about it (spec says up to 16 channels embaded SDI audio)- it so badly documented product- shame BM.

I found out from BMD that they are using VC3 DNXHD encoding. Don't know anything about what this means but I know that older versions of Resolve don't read it, like 8.1.1. Maybe Adobe can come out with an update or BMD can do something on there end.

There are still problems with Hyperdeck version 2.0 and the AViD MXF file version offered. I imported a DNxHD MXF file recorded with the Hyperdeck Shutlle (with last firmware version) into DaVinci Resolve (last version MACOSX). Exporting it to QuickTime Prores broke the codec and run havoc. The same footage copied into Avid Media Composer (copying the file into Avid Media Composer 6 folder) could not be recognised by the Media Tool. I think BM has some further work to do ....wouldn't dare to use this compressed footage for serious production until a quality proofed version is offered.

VC-3 is name used in SMPTE standard- DNxHD is just AVID's name for it. DNxHD is an implementation of wider VC-3 technology.

Works in Resolve for PC.

Resolve for Mac does not output clean ProsRes .mov QuickTime file . I presume there is something wrong with the Avid DNxHD MXF file recorded in the Hyperdeck shuttle or/and with the "transcoder" in Resolve.

Sorry if this is already covered but is the DNxHD codec here go to 109 IRE or does it hard clip at 100 IRE like prores (thinking about s-log here). Thanks!

Are you sure ProRes clips at 100 IRE ? FCP has options for superwhites with a Prores workflow. The Ninja folks also confirmed that there is no clipping with a ProRes workflow.

I don't have personal experience with s-log and prores but my friends have told me that prores recorders throw away the info from 101-109ire- you can see detail in the highlights on the Sxs cards that doesn't show up in the prores files. I could be mistaken.

I picked up one of these recorders so I guess I'll get to test first hand : )

still trying to figure out if we can power the shuttle off of a DTAP and an Anton bauer (or similar) battery. I called BM, but haven't heard back. anyone know if its possible? an hours worth of battery life is not enough for a day of shooting.
I have an IDX DTap to dc plug that fits the shuttle and works.
I plug it into the DTap outlet of my AB camera mount plate.
I wanted the double adapter so I can also power a monitor.
Got it from B&H here.

This should work too POWERTAPFS4.
If you're handy you could get an AB Powertap male kit and a 2.5mm inner diameter DC plug and some cable and make your own.
Ignore the shipping: $60.60 price tag because I got 7 items sent to Australia by express courier for $30.

Has anyone gotten Resolve lite working on their Win 7 64-bit install. Mine gives an insufficient memory error for a system with 8GB..Wow!
GTX285 gfx which is CUDA.

Free Resolve Lite for Windows can open Hyperdeck2 MXF files. They can be converted to other formats, which Resolve supports- uncompressed, v210, DPX, TIFF etc.

Hmm- I have 8GB and no problem.
Close all other programmes- you should be able to run it.

I have 6 core CPU and GTX480 and RED EPIC 5K footage works almost in RT at half res good quality debayering settings.
Resolve also likes to have graphic card just for its own usage- not share with whole system.
