Hyperdeck Shuttle 2.0 - Another External Recorder Option

Meh, that means waiting for a Cineform Shuttle - maybe forever.

So the Samurai it is - at least for now.

still trying to figure out if we can power the shuttle off of a DTAP and an Anton bauer (or similar) battery. I called BM, but haven't heard back. anyone know if its possible? an hours worth of battery life is not enough for a day of shooting.

I know I'm jumping into this late, but I am trying to get an idea of the status of the HyperDeck Shuttle. BMD has told me that the new version supports DNxHD, which it clearly does, but many of my clients are going to want to use these files with Premiere. Has anyone successfully used files straight off the HyperDeck with Premiere CS5.5?

It seems like this should be a cut-and-dry solution. Record DNxHD, drop into timeline, done. If not, and some extra work must be done to get this working the way it should, then I am willing to take a look at this. Perhaps some type of offload utility that performs a re-wrap to MOV during offload or something like that would be a solution.

If anyone wants to send me some sample DNxHD files recorded with the HyperDeck, I'd love to take a look at them.

you should read through the thread. all the questions you asked are answered in pretty good detail, including links to clips.

It should be possible, the specs say*"Power supply connection supports 12V to 18V." I will be building a cable and testing in the next few days and will report.

I have nothing against the DNxHD codec. However, what we ALL NEED is another WRAPPER i.e. .mov (Quicktime) in order to drop it into the time ines of ANY video editor. Otherwise, the Hyper Shuttle 2 (which I bought and tested) will remain a dead-end. BlackMagic would be wise to address these issues ASAP. BTW My BM DaVinci Resolve version (the last one) has exported a QuickTime file that is obviously rotten (does not play correctly in QT, FCPX etc.). Therefore: don't rely to much on Resolve as a free file transcoder. I still think the product has a lot of potential.

I did not have problem with ProRes from Resolve- but I tried it on PC only.
There is to much beta with BM products- they have so many beta releases.
Another one- beta preview for FCP X.

Nothing except AVID or Resolve can open HyperDeck2 video files- crap. These files are not the same as made by AVID.
these are the EXACT same files that Avid makes. thats why avid is able to work with them. its only a matter of time (as was already mentioned) till they release a ProRes option, then everyone is covered. until then, this is a really sweet option...just for Avid users.

the point of the Avid DNxHD codec is to NOT have to inport or rewrap ANYTHING in Avid. its a direct to edit system. if its yet another one of the devices who simply re-wraps the codec, avid still needs to import it (to the best of my knowledge) to create its own MXF's. I think its funny, if they released ProRes first everyone would be happy and that would be the end of it, but since Avid got the first advantage everyone is freaking out. ProRes is coming, just need to hold on a little while longer.....or switch to Avid

The reason people are freaking out is that ProRes and FCP are way more the norm than DNxHD and Avid are in the market that the Hyperdeck Studio and Hyperdeck Shuttle are sold in. My guess is BMD went DNxHD first because they thought things were shifting towards Avid and wanted to help the cause. Now that 99% of the problems were finally addressed with FCPX, Avid now needs help to get those FCP users to switch unlike they did a few weeks back before the last FCPX update.

No- they are not!

I deal with AVID MXF files (once which are created during digitalization in AVID) every day and have at least few methods to convert/re-wrap them- none of them works with Hyperdeck MXF files.
I also have no problems with AVID MXF files made by Carbon Coder or Resolve- these ones work the same as AVID's ones.
Only Hyperdeck2 files are so problematic.
