HVX200 Delivery Dates

Well I spoke to a lot of you guys today on the phone and via emails, and as you well know, no cameras have arrived yet. No second shipment. We'll see tomorrow.

I do hope that this delay doesn't reflect badly on me, Matt. If I had a magic button to push and make Panasonic deliver cameras to us, I would have driven my thumb into that button by now until sparks were flying. But there is no such button.

Everything I have ever posted so far over the past year has been direct info from Panasonic. i.e They say "Since you guys ordered so many cameras so early, you are going to get a larger allocation at this time." So I post that. They say, "You guys are going to get maybe this many cameras on such date," so I post that.

And I am on here every night doing this because I want all of you guys to have a tap into your camera manufacturer. However, when the dates come and the cameras aren't here, or the numbers aren't what they said, how could I possibly be in control of that?

So yes, I hope that in the eyes of intelligent people, a manufacturer's delay in delivering their product doesn't reflect badly on me, a 15 year veteran shooter that happens to sell product for 30 different manufacturers, all of whom have their own schedules and delays.

Thanks for listening. I just had a feeling I needed to share that, because the vibe lately seemed to be turning a bit sour, and the axe falling a little more blindly and gnashing throats of bystanders.

rush,

don't think anyone's reflecting badly on you...think it's just the frustration of panny giving the shipping date of dec. 29 and almost one month later, majority of people don't have one in hand. you still tha man!

I hear you boo. It hurts me too. I could be shooting 2 different shows right on a regular basis for some pretty important people if I only had my own HVX.... :undecided

I hope you didn't get a "sour" impression from my post. I certainly meant nothing negative towards you or EVS. The no deposit waiting list was a very generous thing you did. And you have kept everyone well informed.

My comments were more about an observation (that I guess you have already made) that from the way things seem to be playing out, if you are far down on the list and want a HVX ASAP; going to a smaller store with a shorter waiting list might be the quicker route.

You're A #1 cool man in my book!

Cheers

PS-I am glad you and Apollo made up, sorry to hear of his passing

Thanks for the info Rush. I had been wondering about if you guys got any of your second shippment in. I also want to thank you for being honest and up front with us all on this whole HVX thing.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate that.

Well, according to EVS management, we just got in one HVX today, no cards, and the proud owner is Evinsky. Come and get it man.

Boy I sure hope that the next shipment is more substantial....:undecided

Evinsky??? You mean my best buddy Evinsky. The Evinsky that I share everything with? You mean the Evinsky that I set up with my sister and said, "Don't worry man, you can make it up to me later. You know friends lend/give things to friends all the time."

Is that the Evinsky that is gonna have the next HVX????

The frustration is certainly mounting. It has been difficult to get confirmed shipping dates or shipping quantities from Panasonic. Hard to know what to make of it. As Rush said, we (as dealers) would love nothing more than to get in a truckload of camera's to fulfill all of the orders and inquiries on the HVX but that is not happening yet. We can only go by what is being passed on to us, which often times is about as clear as the SoCal skies on a smoggy day. That being the case, it is impossible to give confirmed delivery dates to anyone. Any dealer who is doing so.... I would have to question their motives and info.

As for our list at Abel LA (separate list than our Abel New York office), we are not yet in the triple digits. As previously indicated, some of that comes from the deposit issue. We require a $1,000 REFUNDABLE deposit to be added to our Pre-order list which is why it is not as long.

Any questions please give me shout.

All I can say is remember all of you on the waiting list above 100 saying back in December that you will be getting your HVX by the end of January-February? well guess what? 2 people on the EVS list will have theirs by the end of January. The same goes for just about all vendors out there. How is this possible? Almost 30 days after Panasonic announced that they are shipping and only 4 to one of their best vendors?

Panasonic has got to get the production up on these and fast. I ordered early on and had a production set for Feb. 2 based on a 4th quarter 2005 release. As January arrived and the cameras were stating to ship I moved it back to March 1st to be safe. Now I am starting to wonder if that is going to cut it. And I am in the top 10 at my vendor! If the camera wasn't ready to ship they should have just had a press release saying they have pushed it back.......then all of us rabid customers could at least stop counting the minutes!

EDIT:(I am not picking on EVS....they are a high profile highly regarded vendor on this site and because RUSH keeps us informed we know for sure what they are getting or no getting from Panasonic. That is the only reason I used them as an example.....trying to not aggitate the wrong people.....it is Pana that I am frustrated with)

Pssssst. ...Hey, Evinsky.

Over here....

...Wanna sell yer HVX?

Hehehe :)

As much as I want my HVX200, if I were to get one today, I would be so tempted to list in on eBay. Just to see what happens!

My HVX should be here Monday...

My HVX should be here Monday...

I got a call from Promax today telling me that my HVX was in BUT...

Panasonic didn't send any 4GB cards!!!

I put my name on Promax's waiting list way back on September 13th, 2005! Come the begining of December ,working with Jason Checketts(sp?) my sales guy, I found out that I was #3 on their waiting list. As the end of December came and went with no deliveries I was #2, just last week I jumped to #1 when the other person cancelled. BTW I think that Jason and Promax rock and in no way shape or form can they be blamed for this fiasco.

And now my HVX is being boxed up to be FedExed to me but I wont be able to do any HD capture w/o P2 cards. I ordered the HVX + 5 4GB P2 card package for my company. I'm not here to Panasonic bash but I must say my boss is thoroughly pissed at their handling of this.

Luckily I'm not in the boat most of you producer/DP/indie folks are. I work for a video semiconductor company and we got the HVX to try and solve the problem of engineers demanding test video clips in 4:2:2 colorspace at video and film frame rates without paying hundreds of dollars per second to license someones HD or SD clip for a year with various restrictions.

Unfortunately my camera exprience is only limited to being a 2nd AC on a few Varicam and XL1 shoots. So anyone in the San Jose or SF bay area that would like to take a peek at the camera or do some test shoots drop me a line, I'd like to meet more camera folks in the area and mooch/soak up some more camera knowledge.

well i guess it's somewhat comforting to see that Promax isn't the only one who got stiffed on cards. i wonder if VMI has any in stock?

reminds me of the XBOX 360 prob going on, except on a real level, not little kids trying to get one from mommy.

I just wish i could go to a store with the company credit card and buy one. Whenever they are in stock is when we get one, and i just finished reading this entire thread and doesnt seem like thats anytime soon. :(

oh contentlab, where do you work? im on first street in downtown SJ. i live in south san francisco though.

thank god for carpooling with my girlfriend here, we both work in the same office

I can't begin to describe how depressing this. :(

That means EVS, probably the largest purchaser of these cameras, has recieved a grand total of 4 cameras in the first month of shipping.

I don't know what to say. When I ordered 6 months ago, I really thought I would have my camera by now.

I guess I was just dumb.

Chris

Very depressing, but at the same time, I want it done right the first time.

Panasonic, PLEASE don't rush them if it compromises quality.

Steve

It's all very interesting. After all the discussion (here, not by Panny!) of how cheap and easy P2 cards are to make and how Panny is charging way too much, is it possible that the cards are the bottleneck?

Since P2 has been around a while, I'd expect Panny to be shipping 'em without a problem

Unless the real situation is that they're on the cusp of offering 8MB cards for the same price, and are holding back so everyone gets those instead!

Hahaha. Can you imagine if there was one Walmart in LA that had 100 HVXs starting at 5:00am tomorrow morning?

Even I don't want an HVX enough to risk that!
