HVX in Europe only with two P2 cards incl.

if we, european customers, want to buy the ntsc model, i think that there is no big problems about that. televisions are ntsc compatible in majority here. the only problem we may encounter is the lower definition in sd. but hdv is the same. we ll have better slow motion too. lower price even if they finally sell the cam alone in europe. and if we really want a pal output, we can now easily find softwares to do that.
and panasonic will have a lot of hvx200 pal bundles in their arms.
i really don t understand if it s true, because hvx200 is the z1/hd100 competitor.
people will go back to dvx100b or z1 and pana will never sell them p2 cards anymore in the future. if i buy the hvx200 alone, i will for sure buy p2 cards later, maybe this year. but if they push me to buy another cam .... hey hey mister pana, if you want to sell it to big productions they will probably have enough money to rent or buy bigger cams, but if you are looking for little structures too, i think you might reconsider this bundle aspect, it s too expensive for them ....
IF IT S CONFIRMED BUY NTSC!!

As you can see, 25p/50i believers, we are not the only ones.

For the price of the hvx200 PAL bundle in france, i could buy 2 NTSC hvx200 with a firestore .....

I'm still not convinced about the 60p wish. I just cannot be bothered, you're just asking too much imo. I actually wouldn't wanna consider ntsc at this point. for the €5000 to €6000 mark, I want at least a camera that has proper support, so no grey product, and the bigger platform: Pal, not ntsc. We in Europe will always be doomed to buy a fishy product or a more expensive one, just take the punch

it s not the fact to buy a more expensive product, it s the fact to be forced to buy something we don t want. if i'm going to buy a porsche tomorrow, i don t want the seller to force me to buy a caravan with it ....

Bien sur, delaro. C'est pour ça que nous devons être résolus à continuer à proposer des solutions. HVX pour tous!!

(1) If there isn't any flickering problems in case of shooting 24p/60i under fluorescent lights in PAL regions...

(2) If there is (cheap) standards conversion software...

OK! It's for SD but...:

(3) If there is a cheaper offer instead of €10000 + VAT...

...so why not?

And if there is a need for a warrantee repair Panasonic WILL laugh all the way to the bank! Or in other words you'll need to write them a blank cheque!

Besides once VAT and import duty is added then I've always found the price difference negligable!

Indy.....

Well I have just read through this thread gobsmacked!
Why the hell would I want two extremely expensive 8gb P2 cards, that will be cluttering up the back of one of my drawers in a couple of years time when 128gb cards are about, for more or less the same price?

I have been budgeting for buying the HVX200 as soon as the PAL version becomes available in March. But no, I don't want the P2 cards. Nice idea, but the capacity is far too low at the moment, and the price far too expensive for what they are. Firestore is the way to go until the P2 cards plummet in price and incease massively in capacity.

No, I don't want an NTSC version of the HVX200. It's incompatible over here, and should I ever want to sell it, I will get sweet FA for it in the UK as no one will want to touch it. PAL all the way.

So where does that leave the many hundreds of shooters who have been looking forward to purchasing a PAL HVX200? I sould imagine up sh*t creek without a paddle!

So what can be done, if this turns out to be gospel? Will B&H or EVS be able to get hold of PAL HVX200's, without the P2 cards? If so, it will be far cheaper to jump on a flight to the States (£350) buy it and bring it back as a grey import. That may be the only choice for many shooters who don't want to pay excessive bundle prices, plus the £350 for the flight is nothing compared to the usual rip off prices we pay in the UK and Europe compared to the USA.

I see the best price with the P2 cards in the USA is $8995. I should imagine the price in the UK for the same package would be £7995 ($14,100). I could take my family to Disney for the difference!

EVS, let me know if you can get the PAL version, camera only!

:)

what will be the proportion of hvx200-P2-bundle / hvx-cam-alone-bundle sold in the US? 30/70?more?less? what do u think?

Of course if Panasonic had made a switchable model that would have been great. But they havent. Personally for my use, buying the NTSC model is not an option.

Firstly, do I really beleive that my HD 24p projects will be distirbuted in 24p? Probably not - im not that good yet :-) Its more a likely they will be shown as 25p projects in the UK at best and on my 50i telly at home at worst.

Also for my corporate work I'll probably continue to shoot SD for my clients for immdeidate delivery. HD hasnt exactly taken off here yet - we are all early adopters on here, most of my clients wouldn't know what to do with HD at the moment. SD Standards conversion is just not an option for this run and gun work. It's all about shooting and editing in a day as fast as you can, and to buy a HVX I'll have to sell my DVX, so SD and conveniece is imporant too.

Thats the key for me. My paid work is all SD, but the icing is being able to shoot short films or a low budget feature in HD. In all honestly it's not likely ever to be projected - and this year the UK has had 250 digital cinema projectors fitted just incase it is :-). 24p is not really a concern for me anymore - frame rates for projection won't be an issue in the future; and most short film fesitvals I have been to all project digital SD!

It's true, we get a bum deal here in the UK, but aside from making voices heard there isnt much we can do. For me and the work I do, buying the NTSC model of this camera will cause more problems than it will solve them.

Who knows what Panasonic UK are going to do - I really hope they dont force you to buy the P2 bundled deal as I'd rather go the firestore way until prices fall - but at this point its all specualtion anyway.

Its a shame the camera couldnt do a 60p scan encoded as a pre-slomo'd 25p stream - but that may come in a later model, maybe even a firmware upgrade or hack..lol

A year ago all I wanted was 720p from a HDV camera. Now im given 1080p with DVCproHD, 720/50p... and Im complaining. Yeh we all want too much, but if you dont ask......

indy, if the european price of the cam alone is 7500€ i will buy it for sure .... it s not the problem here, the problem is to be forced to buy these p2 cards. it s not a VAT and import duty problem, we always lived with that (it will never change i think). It s just that US and Japan sell the cam alone, not europe. if you want to be squeezed and passive, you re free, but a lot of people do not agree .....

Personally, I will buy the cam if I can get it without the P2 cards for soemthing around 5000 to 6000 Euros. If I won't be able to buy it for that price, I will consider to buy a different cam, maybe the JVC.

I am planning on buying and using P2 cards, but not before there are bigger cards available for lower prices.

So if it turns out that this roumor is true and Panasonic will sell this cam as a P2 bundle only in Europe, then I'll be pretty much through with this company. I understand that from their point of view, the P2 technology needs to be pushed, but this should happen through Quality of the product itself and not by bundling something together that the customers do not want (yet).

What?! Until now and evidence to the contrary...

any problems with 24p (60i) shooting in PAL land? Flickering problems when shooting under fluorescent lights? In affirmative case, is it possible to use a 1/50 shutter to correct this? Have you an answer, Barry?

Barry_Green said:
You could shoot 24p at 1/50 and probably take care of flicker...
'cause the "probably" issue, I ask Barry for the "unflickering confirmation", so, in that case...nothing is incompatible, unless the money that goes to the others' pocket instead of the yours.

OK and also it depends of your work/market and your goals. But for film out, there are some reasons as disadvantages (quotes already added):

Besides YOUR (right?) adjustable reasons that you clarified us, why?

Emanual,
just a friendly observation: the way you are conducting yourself you are starting to get a bit annyoing. You have some good points, but most of what you are is just re-quoting what has allready been said out of context to dispute those who said it.
I'd strongly sugest you take a break for a moment.. let others have their say too.
I fully understand that you are passionate sabout this subject (with good reason) but it's getting a little obsessive.

My personal opinion (FWIW) regarding the firestore is it won't be available until mid to late summer 06.
Their HDV plugin that was supposed to be released in June just started shipping.
Don't get me wrong...they make a great product but are sometimes a victim of their own success.
Anyways, my 2cents.

I really hope we europeans can order the pal-version of HVX from US. At least they are selling the pal-version of the DVX100 somewhere...Mikko, let's fly to US and get two brand new HVXs in the next march, hahahah!

Seen on a french forum: "the man from panasonic told me at Satis HVX presentation that 4GB P2 cards price will be 200€ and 8GB 1000€ when the cam will be released in europe (february-march 2006)"

And then I guess, you have to buy 128GBs cards with camera when you buy the camera, right??

No, seriously, that's good news, 4 Gbs for 200 EUR...that's not bad...

i fully agree. IMO they see their P2 prices are too high and the only way to get rid of them in the storeroom is by forcing them out. but they mess with the customers this way and might soon lose sales to JVC ( a lot) , Canon and Sony (even more).

i thought the HVX200 was targeted at the SONY Z1 market and not at the "Canon H1 and higher " market.
