A revolution in Panasonic's audio management philosophy for professional handheld camcorders?

Ha, did I just see someone named Faust??
How befitting! I'm not exactly solvent at ze moment, monsieur, so I don't care about any cameras coming out at ze moment, as delicious as it may look. Just sold my HPX170 and now I've got two clients knocking my bleeding door down - ironic. All I say is I dunno why panasonic couldn't marry this HPX250 with the AF100! Different price point and all I would have probably sold a kidney to get it, lol!

For features, the only camera I'm interested in now (besides my AF100) is the ARRI ALEXA, should the Heavens permit. My god that 80K camera churns out some great colors!!! Yip, $80K plus! Even if I had the budget to shoot on 35mm or 75mm, I'd still shoot on ALEXA. It's just so beautiful. RED is not dead, but Alexa may have just put it to BED. If you haven't seen DRIVE with Ryan Gosling, at least see the trailers - the footage is deliciously stunning. Great Cinematography and color. I'm selling my mother and my sister and my dirty soul for that camera. I know what I want for Christmas! If any camera can lead the charge on pushing 35mm film into obsolescence it's the ARRI ALEXA.

Modern day Faustian tale coming up, my soul for a magical camera, now if someone will kindly point me to the devil...

LONG overdue. I've been badgering them for this since the HVX. This is t the first camera to get it; they first added it to the HMC80. But yes it's very welcome here to have the auto option. Especially on the HPX250 because it records 4 channels, so you can set 3 & 4 on either fixed level or (finally) auto.

barry-

i apologize in advance by the noob question but:

i don't understand the point you and faust are making.

what audio advantage does the hpx250 now possess that the 200/200a/170 didn't have?

again, thanks in advance for your patience.

be well

It has the ability to automatically control the audio levels. The hvx/HPX can't, they're manual control only. And when you're a one-man crew in a high-stress situation, you don't always have time to ride the manual audio level dials. So having auto as a backup is a nice safety net for event or news shooters or doc makers.

That audio auto function is huge for event work.
Can someone confirm which batteries the 250 takes? Is it the HVX /DVX style I have been using or is it the AF100 / 170 kind. I hate to have switch all my batteries but what are you gonna do?

HPX250's have arrived at the three or so distributors in the US, now will find their way to dealers. Next week seems plausible for retail delivery. This is the same timing as the HPX170 in 2008, if I recall correctly.
