HPX170 Lens Wobble Improved

In all fairness Louis, we haven't had an update in a while.

We don't know what the "fix" will be, nor do we do know much else.

Specialized has announced its own "fix" but I believe that doesn't have the official endorsement of the company.

While I trust SC immensely, I still would like an official statement from Panasonic about what the problem is exactly, what the fix is exactly, and the particulars.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions, but I am confused about these things and would appreciate the earliest possible confirmation and direction.

I thought that was coming on October 10th.

Don't mind being patient, as we all should, but I also urge that communication is necessary, even if to say that Panasonic is considering x, y and z.

Absolutely, and I can completely appreciate where people are coming from.
I would love to get more detail as much as anyone else.
I just want to keep things accurate, that's all.
To say that we've gotten nothing but silence from Panasonic simply is not true.
That's all I was responding to.

Yes, an update would be nice, and of course the sooner the better.

Absolutely.
We're on the same page, David.

I thought we were

And I believe Panasonic will do the right thing.

I just wish it were sooner or at least some definitive information is forthcoming real soon.

But to say that all we've received is 'silence from Panasonic' is absolutely and completely untrue.

In my opinion "to hear something from Panasonic" means an official written communication, to the customers or to the dealers.

Gary

PS = all over the world, of course

yeah i feel they should give us some insight to what is happening. i've been waiting and waiting so i can purchase the camera.

We just gotta give this time. It's obviously a pretty serious issue, so I'm sure that the people at Panasonic want to have everything 100% figured out before they make a statement. I for one would rather see them take their time and fix this problem correctly instead of rushing to get it figured out. The fact that Jan has been looking into this shows that they are serious about getting the problem figured out. I'm sure we will hear from Jan soon. I definitively don't think they are going to screw us. That would be a HUGE HUGE mistake by Panasonic and they know that.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion.

My personal take . . . this is a 1st Gen/1st Batch camera and I'm not shocked there's a problem, nor am I allowing myself to be crippled by it. So, I'll continue to use my HPX170 and find workarounds if the wobble becomes a problem. And I'll wait patiently for Panasonic to announce their carefully calculated course of action.

I recommend that anyone who wants this camera and needs it now, have no fear and ust order from Spec-Comm. Or, if you can, just wait until Panasonic remedies future shipments.

I am not shocked either that there is a problem.
I just want it fixed with nothing more from my already lean pockets.

DC, I do appreciate your POV. I think pany will do the right thing. I am noting that it appears that the current ship back on our dime thing is not really the service I would like.

And to other posters, I too agree that patience is a good thing for this. I would not want Panasonic to rush and make another error.

All I want is a working camera for the amount I already paid.

You can look at my other posts, I am not a fanboi, but close. I love these cameras and have been recommending AVS and other dealers for months now.

Part of me feels bad too though, I recommended this exact camera to many of my associates and now they have issues.:(

I have a sporting event to shoot this weekend. I'll be zoomed in most of the time and need to do some fast manual focus. I don't how I'm going to do that. On my camera, I can't touch the focus ring when zoomed in without moving the frame. It's a problem.

Has the wobble gotten anyone in trouble yet?

In post #589 I posted this:

ARG! I just got word that a client will NOT use me to shoot his project because he fears the HPX will provide frame instability when rack focusing so they're going to use another dude who has a 200a. wtf man......... I sold my A1 so that I can grab more gigs and now this!?

Has ANYONE heard from Jan?

That was $1,800 down the drain!

It was a two day shoot, I could have used that BIG time...

Hi,

Sorry folks I know you have been waiting patiently (ahem, some more than others, ;-) but I am having a meeting on Monday where I should hear something solid. Hang tight, and try to make do. We will make it right. Try not to get carried away here, we do recognize that it is hard earned money that you have invested. Please, it will all work out.

All the best,

Jan

Great news! I have no doubt that this will all be worked out.

Never had any doubt the cameras would be fixed.

Is me not wanting to spend more on shipping possibly being confused with impatience?

I will be trying to use the HPX on my first two camera gig tomorrow with the new camera.

I have been able to use the older HVX up till now, but they need two cameras. We are shooting differrent shots so I will not have to "dumb" down the HPX to match the HVX.

I will report back how it went with wobble.

With something like this, I believe people really appreciate being reassured, which Jan has done.

It would be great to learn how soon after the meeting on the 20th something definitive and orchestrated will be provided.

The reason I state this is because the cams have to shipped somewhere.

They have to be serviced.

They have to be returned.

All of us have to schedule around this time period, and for some us that have event gigs, that is a problem we have to deal with. I really need to learn when and how long it will take.

Thank you to this forum and this thread for bringing this out.

I was just about to place an order for the HPX, but I am assuming I should wait until this plays out and becomes resolved. And, that it what I'll do.

To all who already have their HPXs, I hope they cover shipping for you. It's only fair. I'm sure panasonic will do the right thing.

If they don't I'm jumping to Sony. EX1. Flame me all you want; loyal customers should be able to depend on their company of choice to treat them like royalty. Without the customers, the company wouldn't exist.

hey so what do I do if mine's doing the same thing?

sorry but i cant be bothered flicking through 60+ pages for the answer - please forgive my laziness

Send Jan your serial number, check here daily, wait.
Panasonic will fix it, the issue is how and what time frame.
Also will panasonic cover shipping both ways.

There is some good info if you can afford the time to look through the thread.
Take a couple of hours.

Thanks atlfilmguy. Does it matter that I'm in Australia though? Should I be sending the serial to the panasonic rep here?
