HPX170 Lens Wobble Improved

My understanding is that Specialized Communications also does this using the Panasonic fix.

I just sent my in, and from start to finish it was less than a week.

Pretty nice and you get a bag of candy; at least I did.

how much of a difference is there in the lens play?

Just got my 170 back from Panasonic today. I brought it to the UPS store Friday night, so they didn't get it until Monday -- still amazingly fast turn around.

As I've stated before, I was never really worried about the lens play issue on my camera for the work I do, but for resale value, I wanted to get the fix. I must say, there's a huge difference. The lens barely moves now, even when you try to wobble it. I can't possibly see any accidental movement at this point.

Kudos to Panasonic for addressing this issue so well.

Sent mine in Tuesday, received it fixed Thursday. Panasonic turned it around with a same day repair Wednesday; couldn't ask for more. Lens is now solidly supported with just a hint of the appropriate degree of shock mount evident.

Not sure why Panasonic QC didn't catch it in the first place, but it's what we get for being early adopters. Ordinarily I wait for these types of issues to shake out before purchasing but in this case the camera was so compelling I sold my HVX 200 in anticipation and took the chance. I'm glad I did even with the early adopter issues because IMHO the footage has been clearly superior to the HVX200.

With the rapid advances in image capture technology we're seeing in this decade, I find it almost a crime not to use the best available device to capture footage which you can't go back and recapture. When I look at images i shot with digital still cameras in the 90's it brings a tear to my eye because the resolution was so poor, and you just KNOW we'll be looking at today's images that way ten years from now on our wall-to-wall 200 inch display screens.

Bottom line- I'm completely satisfied with Panasonic's response and I am diggin' the 170. I think it's the best bang for the buck available today in its price range.

Tech junkie that I am, I look forward to the upcoming NAB Vaporware Cam... which I'll probably let you guys report on for a while, because the HPX 170 rocks!

Has anybody from the UK/Europe had the fix? I'd like to know the procedure.

Thanks.

I did it from Italy.

Only 47 hours for the round trip Bologna - Frankfurt - Bologna

Camera picked up by DHL on monday at 11:40 a.m and delivered back to me on wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Obviously it is completely free of charge and the shipping insurance is payed by Panasonic Europe.

Hope this can help

Gary

Hi Gary, how did you raise the fix - I've emailed them but had no reply.

I need to sort it now as the 'play' ruined a telephoto shot yesterday.

Thanks. (Paul let me know if you have any joy as I'm in the UK too.)

The wobble has completely disappeared now: I'm very happy. In less than 48 hours this nightmare stops forever.

Ask for the assistence on panasonic website, I have never seen a so rapid service

Regard

Gary
