GH3 How to stop the display info from disappearing?

I dont have a GH3 as of yet but I am planning to buy one. Are you guys saying that the display goes out or the info (shutter speed, fstop, wb). If the display goes out I should look at some other camera. But if the info goes out how bad can it be? Assume that i am recording sound seperately, i dont even need the audio meters. Please can you help me understand tge problem as it could help my decision. Wide angle lens has already made my head spin.

It's just the info that disappears after x number of seconds, so you have to touch a camera control to bring it back. This should be fixed with one of the upcoming firmware updates. ( maybe if we're lucky it will be in the GH3 firmware coming out this month )

I was not happy when I heard this before I bought my GH3. Because I'm used to having to check to see if it's even still recording in the middle of a session. The only thing that stays up on display is the flashing red button showing that its still recording. Otherwise you have to touch the screen or something to bring the rest up for a few seconds then it goes away again. It's actually not as annoying as I thought it would be.

It doesn't bother me either. I prefer a clean screen, but a touch of the button brings the data back if desired.

It's ten seconds and it's annoying not only when recording but when working on the camera. Heaven forbid you think about something more than 10 seconds. The Marketing Manager saying it's to prevent burn in is bogus. They leave the Leveling graphic turned on even tho the data turns off.

It should be as simple as a glance and let my brain think about creative things instead of silly gestures with my camera every 10 seconds and potentially knocking the recording. Another ergonomic problem is the lack of Tally light. If you close the LCD to save power in a locked down shot, you can't glance over to confirm it's still recording. It could fill up the card or run out of battery. The power light being positioned on top isn't visible like it would be on the back.

Seems to me like a lot of design decisions made by video amateurs. It is a stills camera so no surprise.

The worst part is, if you don't touch the camera for ten seconds and the info disappears you then have to press record TWICE before the camera will actually go into record! The first press of the record button makes the info appear and the SECOND press actually starts recording. If the info is on the screen however and you press record it will start recording with one press of the button. How ridiculous is that!?

Can you imaging if the camera did the same this when taking still? The stills guys would be furious. Us video guys are treated so differently. We complain and get SFA!

What happens on the external monitor? Does the info go out on it as well?

Yes, it does. Also, I'm using a SmallHD DP4 EVF and the GH3's on screen info appears extremely small. Anyone else have a similar issue when using an external monitor?

That's a good point. A camera design that takes one press to record in one case and two presses in another violates basic noob ergonomic design principles. One way to get the point across is for owners to write user reviews with poor ratings. You can write one on the Panasonic site here (there's only 7 so your review will count):

My 1-star review hasn't been posted so YMMV

ALso, if you purchased via Amazon, you can write a review there. Be nice. Don't rag on Panasonic. But be clear about the negatives. I got feedback on my Amazon review that it helped another user within an hour of posting a review. YMMV

EPILOG: My review was rejected. I was however afforded the oppty to write a new one. We'll see ...

EPILOG #2: Second review was accepted.
