GH3 How to stop the display info from disappearing?

Things like this and the ETC not working when assigned to a Function Button are things we need to be able to get reported to Pana for an early upgrade/bug fix.

ETC does work when assigned to a function button. It doesn't work in 1080/60p mode outright.

I just corrected that in the "GH3 Bug" thread Ben.
It was early operator error not realizing that I needed to be in Creative Video Mode vs regular M as I'm used to in other cameras.

ok, I got a response from Panasonic customer support. Here's what they wrote:

"In response, I would like to inform you that apparently, it is impossible to turn this feature off.The display loses info in order to save battery power. Try to press the DISP. button multiple times. If this still happens, it means you cannt, indeed, turn it off. There is no setting to stop the info from disappearring after 10 seconds."

Too bad...

Thx for the official update, man. Here's hoping that Panasonic can get their financial house in order so a firmware update can be published to solve this issue. At least make it configurable guys.

OK, so I found an info box in the manual that says:
"• If approximately 10 seconds elapses without an operation being performed, part of the display will disappear. Press [DISP.] or touch the monitor to make the display reappear."
The worst part about this for me, is that I use the movie record button (not shutter, as not to engage the auto focus) to start rolling. If the display has disappeared, I actually have to press the record button twice. Once to "wake up" the display. And twice to actually start rolling. Today, I missed two shots, when I assumed I was recording.

Does anyone know how to get the Extended ISO range in video mode? I can not activate it in the video mode, only in some other modes... Would like to shoot video with ISO 125 and manual exposure control...

According to the menu (page 169), Extended ISO does not apply to motion pictures. So, I think the lowest ISO is 200 for motion pictures.

Thanks guys.

I have one more stupid question. I'm doubting about buying a new (smart) phone that can operate as a WIFI monitor / remote for the GH3.

Will it takes up 'bandwidth' while monitoring the GH3 through WIFI? It is actually 'downloading' the video to be able to display it, not?
In that case, I should probably go for an abonnement with unlimited internet, which is costly.

Does anyone know this?

The GH3 doesn't use the internet—it creates it's own wi-fi hotspot, or connects to your existing wi-fi. When your smartphone connects, the GH3 transfers video directly over the network, not through a web provider. Sure, it takes a little bandwidth on the local network, but it won't cost you any data fees.

This is the one thing that I truly hate about the GH3. I did a shoot with it yesterday and constantly had to tap the screen to monitor the audio levels. Overall, love the camera, but hate the disappearing display.

Yes, this sucks and should be made optional. On the other hand: Some big cameras have a "clear display" button and pressing it can move the camera when it´s locked down for a talking head. So maybe this "disappearing info bug" is just a matter of getting used to. Audio levels are very ruff anyways and that´s basically all I´m watching when the camera is recording - well and the "recording-red-dot", this should be viewable all the time...

I agree. This is a feature I really hope they change in a firmware upgrade. It is scary to be recording and not have all the data available at all times without manipulation.

Curious if we can find out how long it took for the first firmware upgrade for the GH2? That may help us know when to anticipate any changes.

Somewhat on topic, but not a perfect solution.

When using a monitor, I was able to get the display to stay on. Audio levels, TC, record tally, battery life, record duration, time left on card...

I was recording for over an hour & all the info stayed up on the HDMI display (I had shut off the camera's screen).
