How to Power the GH4 YAGH

One more idea, if you want something lighter or more compact than full-sized V-mount and Anton-Bauer bricks: Sony EX1, EX3 and F3 owners are familiar with BP-U batteries, which offer the same industry-standard 14.4V (aka 12V) power - unlike other smaller camera batteries (Infolithium L, LP-E6) which are 7.2V.
So you can use BP-U batteries from Sony or Swintronix, and mount them to your rig with a SWIT S-7000U plate. I'm using this solution to power a Roland recorder for 5+ hours.
However, if you have more devices in your rig (camera, YAGH, onboard recorder, monitor) and you've already built it into a shoulder-mount solution, it's better to stick with the big bricks which also serve as a good counterweight. Our Anton-Bauer bricks keep our GH2 w/ accessories running for 7 hours straight.

Just curious if anyone has found a good option for plugging the YAGH into AC for studio events. I think one of the XLR to AC adapters I have for an LED light will work, but I don't want to chance it.

Panasonic should have sold one as an option. Seems weird to sell a device like this and entirely rely on 3rd parties to provide power for it when they make so many other accessories for their cameras.

There are plenty of 12v AC power supplies on the market for relatively low cost. I don't have the YAGH manual handy, although I believe it is available to download. Simply look up the current draw and get a power supply that will handle this. It takes 12v but I'm sure it can handle overvoltage up into the 16v range, and it likely draws well under 5amps, probably more like 2amps. A 12v/2amp power supply with an XLR4 connector should be around $50 from various pro video dealers. Not a big deal at all, they're as common as dirt in the industry.

For those planning to use the Odyssey7Q with the GH4 & YAGH base, we have a very elegant solution. There are several 12v power solutions for the Odyssey7Q in the form of battery plate backs. These will accept V-mount, Anton Bauer or even a pair of Sony BPU batteries. They all feed the Odyssey7Q but leave open a P-Tap accessory power port. This can be used to power the YAGH.

We make UltraThin 3G-SDI cables that are high performance and very rugged even though they are as thin as strands of spaghetti. Perfect for on-camera use. Only two will be needed to feed 4K from the YAGH to the Odyssey7Q (as soon as we release our 4K compressed recording mode).

Mount the Odyssey7Q however you wish on the GH4. On the hotshoe, on a rod mount behind it, whatever. Run two SDI cables from the YAGH to the Odyssey7Q. Run one P-Tap to XLR4 cable from the Odyssey7Q battery plate to the YAGH. I'd suggest shrink wrapping the three of them together in one need little cable bundle.

And I can confirm that the YAGH will provide power to the GH4. So that's all you will need in one neat little package.
