How to Power the GH4 YAGH

I am a bit confused about how the YAGH is powered. I know the GH4 has its own battery, and when we hook it to the YAGH we need power. Will Panasonic give us an AC connector with the YAGH? I know there is a port for a 4-pin XLR 12VDC input. So the question is: is there an AC adapter that comes with the device or are we supposed to power it ourselves with some other brand of 12VDC method?

For what I know the YAGH only works powered with the XLR input. Panasonic until now doesn't offer any solution, so you will have to use third party gear that fits. But this is a very early date, any power solution that would allow a run and gun style use of the YAGH, wether from Panasonic or from others, would sell like hot cake.

Thanks. So right now the YAGH is useless without power. Does the HDMI port need power? Probably only the XLR inputs. Is it reasonable to expect Panasonic to offer something by ship time or should be be figuring this out now ourselves? If so, what would some of you more experienced folks suggest?

Switronix makes a version of their PowerBase 70 with the proper connector (IIRC same as for the F3 and Digital Bolex), and of course there are all the rail-mounted AB/V-lock solutions available

That 12v XLR is 'industry standard' many monitors and other things have it. I guess it is assumed you will use Vlock or AB batts via Ptap cables (also a 'standard)

I would get something like this

You can just get a basic v-mount plate but then you have to get a cheese plate and other 15mm rail rig parts to get it properly rigged up. The other thing I like with the above linked option is that you get a whole bunch of D-Tap connection points. Right now you only need one but it allows you to be flexible

Some people prefer Anton Bauer battery systems and there are similar

You will need the following cable

You are also going to need to need a minimum of 2 Sony V-mount batteries and a battery charger. You can search ebay or you can go to place like this

Some people have mentioned a Switronix based system but I don't have much knowledge about those.

Here is the other issue I see here which Panasonic engineers didn't take into account, and for crying out loud, why do you not test and listen to real world shooters about this stuff… You have to remove the camera from the YAGH in order to change the camera battery. UNLESS I'm missing info somewhere where the camera can also receive power from the YAGH?

That would be really silly, if it didn´t.

What, you mean like making the height of the camera/YAGH combo a non-standard size so standard rod mounting of matte box, follow focus and the like will be at an improper mounting position if using a standard base plate setup? And by using 1/4 20 rail mounting points in the YAGH rather than the 1/2 13 standard that all other rods use?

Lets hope the engineers were smart enough to include this, and the people writing about the YAGH have just left off this important feature!

I'm hoping it hasn't been mentioned because it would be such an obvious oversight to not have. The GH3 battery grip sends power to the camera through the same set of pins connecting it to the YAGH so I don't see why it wouldn't transfer power to the camera.

I hope you are right, but the YAGH design is full of oversights. Like how the HDMI interface area appears to be in the way of the fold out screen pivot.

I guess my reality is on the GH3 that if I have something into the HDMI its a monitor so I don't care about the articulating one at that point but that will be different on GH4 so you have a good point.
