T2i How long can you record at 720p?

I can't find this answer anywhere. I know that you are limited to 12 minutes of recording time with 1080. Is the same true with 720 or is there more recording time because it's less information?

Or is it the same because it all deals with the sensor heating up?

This has to do with Canon's file size limit. You can only shoot 4GB at a time. According to page 132 of the T2i manual, there is no difference in time limit between 1080p and 720p. The only format you can use to get more recording time per 4GB is in SD mode.

Ok thanks.

So I know people say 4GB is around 12 minutes for 1080

Does anyone know about how much time you can record when shooting at 720?

Read my post again:

... there is no difference in time limit between 1080p and 720p.

Translation: 12 minutes either way. Your camera's manual should have this information.

No because the frame rate is doubled. 720p60, 1080p24, and 1080p30 are all very close in size. The real deciding factor is the amount of change from frame to frame (mostly motion but color can do it as well).

I did fireworks on the 4th and got 18 minutes at 1080p30. Lots of black in between the explosions.

Oh jeeze not this again. This question is has been discussed before. Do a thread search. Anyway I'll sum it up for you. The conclusion is that is depends on how much detail is on your image. So I'll go to the extreme and say if you recorded with your lens cap on nothing but black you would get more time out of the capture. This all has nothing to do with time though, it has to do with the 4GB file limit. So for example, like I was saying, if you capture with your lens cap on black you will see that you will pass the 12min mark but..... you will also see that you can go as long as it takes until you hit 4GB. So the average for 1080 2398 is 12mins or so depending on the detail in the image. May be less, may be more.

The simplest thing you can do to answer your question is to go and shoot something continuously and see how long you can record for with the amount of detail you'll be capturing on average.

I used the lens cap example because if you look it up on this forum you'll see that a few months back someone got over excited and bragged about how they were able to capture something like 32 mins or so. After we questioned him it turned out that he recorded his test with the lens cap on. This of course turned into a great joke of a thread.
