Just so there is no misunderstanding. The aspects ratios are in software. The resolution of these aspects is subject to the sensor ... and also software. The old JVC LS 300 had a S35 sensor and an MFT mount - with S35 full sensor read, it was 11.2 MPX; at 86% it was 4K but vignetted on some MFT lenses; others recommended 80% with a slight loss of innate resolution.Multi Aspect is not in the software for GH5S the sensor is bigger than the MFT circle...

On the other hand, Sony A7SIII offers an in-body "clear image zoom", which allows for an APS-C crop that's subsequently upscaled to 4K. ARRI Alexa also upscaled its 2.8K sensor into 4K. Most smartphones have a built-in digital upscaling algorithm for both photo and video. Depending on the camera processing power and the degree of the enlargement, the image can look pristine ... or like complete crap, as in the case of a 100x zoom in Samsung's models.
And then there's everything in between.
I suggest you look at this from 3 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDaglh-nUmA about 2:40 has the diagrams. So very different way than GH5 etc.
Perhaps this GH5II is just a way to take advantage of a parts shortage for the original GH5. That is, some critical component (or components) of the GH5 is no longer available but, since the camera still sells well and profitably, Panasonic thought it was worth modifying it to suit a replacement component. A mild refresh (e.g. new image processor to allow internal 10-bit 4K 60p) excuses the new model name to attract press interest and allow a price reset at the same time.Ok, something isn't quite right with the leaked images of the GH5II. They look identical to photos of the original GH5 except with the red ring on the left hand dial, & the red record button. I can't imagine these are the real deal. All will be revealed on the 25th i guess.
It's a great video but doesn't contradict anything I wrote. It just explains the particular design of GH-5s and the intent behind it. GH-6 or GH-6s, if such ever come out, may inherit some of the traits of the previous generations. Or create some new ones.

Panasonic still needs to persuade customers that it will invest in Micro Four Thirds in the future. That uncertainty must be seriously affecting sales by this point.
There are other differences including the labelling of the function buttons. If the “black flecked paint” is the same – I didn’t check – it’s because these are Panasonic renders of digital models, not product photographs, and since the body is the same, they used the same 3-D model. To be clear, i think the photos are edited (photoshop). One in particular is identical, down to every little detail of the black flecked paint. The only thing different is the red ring & button.

Surely there’s a longer answer involving transcoding with some helpful free tool?Nope
