Hot Property - Dangerous Derk Productions

yup, this was very tongue in cheek and I think worked well. I guessed it was a comedy from your screen grabs :-) Whether it's a thriller or not doesnt really concern me. There is some suspense with a man breaking into a house trying to avoid detection.

I agree the pacing fell off in the middle, we didn't need to see every item he picked up (unless that was going to form part of a plot reveal or profile the person he was robbing). But aside from that I found myself smirking and enjoyed this short.

Hot Property was a good film but I have to agree with some of the other people on here who have been stating that it didn't feel like a thriller. I view this as more of a comedy because the joke is they are all robbers and then they all leave. So I have to say that the opportunity with suspense and tension rested solely with the captive couple which was never addressed. The use of a wide angle lens was a good choice, for the most part I liked the lighting. The only shot that I thought the lighting was not organic was when the robber was climbing the ladder. It looked like there was a spotlight right where he chose to break in. Overall a fun film but not a thriller.

I also enjoyed this one and liked the way you opened the film. I think you had one too many establishing shots of the house though. That very last one, get ride of it I'd say. I liked your cinematography and the story. Once he ran into the first guy (which I thought was hilarious) and then the house owner showed up, I knew what was going on, but it still played out nicely. I thought your actors did a fine job and that bikini pic on the phone was, "Nice!" LOL! Anyway, good job on this one and great job getting two in the fest.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I do tend to drag things out a bit when i edit. I think the mistake i made with these films is that I made them both 6 minutes exactly, had to trim A Short Story down a fair bit to fit 6 minutes but on reflection both could have been more snappier.

Live & learn eh? :)

This was a nie little short, I enjoyed this one much more than A Short Story. The opening again had some nice shots, but it goes too long. 1:10 to tell us he wants to rob the place and the door’s locked? Speed it up.

The outside night scenes were too dark, at least on my monitor – I couldn’t see anything in the shadows. Indoors was better. The search inside the house seems to drag a bit. I think you were stretching it out to try and build tension, but without some clue as to what might be coming, I’m just left guessing as to why I’m watching this.

The double reveal was great. Even though I figured it out a little early, it still worked really well and cracked me up. However, I think the joke was clear after “noobs” and he picks up the first bag - the film could have been ended there. The last line with the homeowners doesn’t really add anything.

This was a fun little short, thanks for putting it in!

Although I though A Short Story was better I found the lighter, more comedic tone to be a lot of fun and a nice follow up. It's a nice little short, could be edited tighter but overall it was enjoyable with some good twists.
