Hollywood Celebrity Canon DSLR Users

Yes, we don't have an official source for this, nor do we know what is being shot.

So far, it's been a lot of hype over nothing (as far as the usage in pro circles goes)...unless you've been the one to salivate over the idea of being a background plate shooter!

Actually Jim Jannard is the one who puts up background plates of other cameras instead of actually showing his customers working footage from the Scarlett. Can you say "Vaporware"? no wonder Jannards not taking deposits.

Ignore DSLRs all you want- you'll just be left behind by the tsunami and lose all your paying customers to people who use DSLRs.

Its because of posts like that canons are locked on red forums, if you are so smart then why dont you build your own RED cam huh ? Do it fast , now.

If youre smart you'll sell your $25000 pile of LEAD...I mean RED today before Canon renders it even more worthless. Seriously- what idiot would pay to rent a RED when he could OWN a Canon for less than the cost to rent?

How pathetic is RED that buying a battery & Charger, Shoulder mount, or LCD ALONE would cost more than buying a Canon T2I?

I'd be surprised if RED was still in business 2 years from today. Jannard should have known that building professional video cameras is harder than making overpriced tacky looking sunglasses.

wooo...chill out peeps. jeez. RED, Canon, Panny...whatever...just chill :) shoot what u want on what u want. Duno how it becomes so personal.

I love ignorant people. If you can't afford it, it must suck!

RED is great for Hollywood films with limitless money, but for the average video producer, its an awful camera. Its cost, battery life, weight, size, heat resistance, workflow, memory storage all suck compared to Canon's.

If you are a videographer and you expect people to pay RED prices when they could hire a Canon Shooter for half the price, you will go out of business.

Sell your RED now before the RAW shooting Canons come out that make RED even more worthless. LMFAO @ Jannards "Make Obsolenscene Obsolete"

Posts like these exhibit why there should be an age limit on the internet. You're out of your element and have no idea what you're talking about.

Since you continue to offer absolutely nothing to this forum, I'd recommend you instead use your time to actually shooting something with your t2i. You'd get a lot more out of it and maybe then you'd be able to come back here and offer up some quality discussion.

It seems like the validation you require from true professionals using your choice of gear is a lot more important to you than actually going out and creating something. And if that's really the case, then you're always going to be stuck in the shadows of those who only care about crafting a good story visually, no matter what tool will get them there.

Go give Jim Jannard the same lecture - the only reason anyone even takes the RED seriously is that Steven Soderbergh shot a few crappy films on it.

This thread is also a response to liars like Jannard who claim Canon DSLRs arent a professional tool.

Besides, we're not talking about creativity here, we're talking business. And in business terms Canon is kicking Jim Jannard's ass.

And here is how it matters to a typical videographer: In 2 years time RED may not even be in business anymore. If you want to play russian roulette and buy a camera from a company with a shady track record and may not even be around to support the camera in a few years, spend $25000 on a RED. If you want reliable company with long track record of excellence, buy a canon.

Again, why do you even care? Are you getting money from Canon or something? All you should care about is if you can quality results from the equipment you have available to you.

You're also ignorant if you think RED won't be around in 2 years.

And yeah, Steven Soderbergh is the only reason people use RED cameras. And he was the only reason people shot on DV too. Stop talking out of your ass. (This forum really needs a rolls eyes smiley).

Not really sure why you have an ax to grind against Red. Granted, Jannard does seem a bit exasperated at times that professionals are using DSLRs as evidenced by some of his postings on Red forum, but they are a small and agile company and are capable of responding to Canon. Red's survival will depend on their pricing strategy more than anything else. If they are willing to price Scarlet competively, I think they will survive. They have done a good job of building brand in the cinema field. People will seek after the Red product. It's really going to come down to people holding a $2-3,000 Canon product (ready to shoot) in one hand and a $10,000 (equivalent sized sensor and accessories ready to shoot) Red Scarlet that will provide a better color space for just a bit better image quality in the other hand. People will make a decision from there. Struggling film makers aren't known for their deep pockets.

After the EPIC & Scarlett flop (that is if they ever come out) how will RED make any money? You do realize a company actually has to SELL a product to stay in business.

You want to play Russian roulette with $25,000 in a recession , its your funeral.

I'm merely performing a public service to the people "holding out for a scarlett"

*where's that darn happy dance smiley when u need it*

i guess we def all just cant get along...i'm gone to shoot...with my crappy dvx :)

Yeah, that's the typical business model, but Red is not your typical business. I believe jannard is a billionaire + and cinema is his passion. He would be doing this anyway, and if he can turn out a product that makes a buck, so much the better. We all have our own money pit, his is Red. Red will exist no matter what. They're not going anywhere for a long time. .... barring some unforseen economic disaster.

Show me the HDSLR footage that is front and center on broadcast HD (and not used for some special effect shot like POV or chase cam) and then we'll talk.

Until then, it's all hot air.
