Help help help please

If it's happening in the camera without going near the computer, then it must be a hardware problem. But if it's happening across two different cards, that points to the camera being the problem, not the cards. Do you know anyone else with a P2 camera that you can try the cards in, just to narrow it down for sure? If they work fine in someone else's camera, then that would point to your camera being somehow defective...

Hi Barry,

unfortunately I don't know anyone else with a P2 camera.
I guess I find it very odd that the A series P2 card has been working fine for almost 2 years then when I get an E-series within a couple of hours of using it something goes wrong. I guess I've just got to see what the service center say.

Thanks

If it is the P2 cards does anyone how long they are guaranteed for.

I guess in theory as my E-series is less than 4 weeks old it should be guaranteed, but the A-series is probably 2-3 years old????

Thanks

Had a similar issue with an hvx200(not A), except the blocks were gray, after a couple different techshops looked at it they said the p2 drive needed replacement and panasonic stopped manufacturing them for this older model, go figure. I use the same p2's in a hvx200A with no problems. Very worrisome glitch as I want to get a 170. Who knows when they stop the production line for those 170 p2 drives. That 200 was like 2 years old.

Your kidding, so if I get the same reply back that the P2 driver needs replacing for the HVX-200 E then panasonic have stooped manufacturing for this model then that's it...my P2 facility is dead in the water???
What did you do with your HVX-200 E then when you were told that it couldn't be fixed?

Nothing yet. The shop that has it now is a friend of a friend. We are hoping they can figure out a solution with used parts eventually, but once we see a price, i'm sure it will probably merit just buying a used model altogether. Keep in mind my blocks were gray(not colored like yours) and they did not pop in and out every 3 seconds, they were constant. Another thing is plackback on miniDV tape was fine, no problems there. The exact words from the first tech shop was.. "The p2 drive is fried" If yours are popping in and out every 3 seconds and colored you might still have some hope. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. I love these panny cams, but c'mon make a few more p2 drives for the 200(and at discount of course).

Scary stuff.

So, if this happens to others in the future, is the best alternative a Firestore or DataVideo DN-50?

The odds of both cards failing (especially within days of each other) is slim to none.

Hi Robert

thanks, it does sound as though it is the camera then or at least the HD part of the camera as the SD seems to be working fine.

This is the last thing I need grrrrr :crybaby::angry::crybaby:

That's a great idea. Maybe test it feeding into onlocation or something like that over firewire.

I find it pretty hard to believe that Panasonic has stopped making a key replacement part for the HVX200, especially one that takes as much wear and tear as the P2 slot does (and I'm assuming this is the "drive" you're referring to). Original, non "A" HVX200s were still being sold new less than two years ago, IIRC. I believe there are laws requiring manufacturers to make replacement parts available for considerably longer than that.

Can we get some independent corroboration on this situation? Barry? Jan?

Also, does this suggest that there's a difference between the HVX200 and 200A where this part is concerned? If so, would the 200A's replacement part work in a 200?

Just spoken with pany and it could be the codec board £600 sob sob
I just find this very odd as its been working fine for the last year and a half but as soon as I put an e series card in the camera throws a hissy fit

Hi,

Not sure which service shop gave you this information but I checked with the guys in my service shop and they still have all the parts to fix an HVX200. All parts are available.

Hope this helps,

Jan

Hi Jan,

Do you think that an e-series P2 card could have caused this problem, it's just odd that it's been running fine for the last year and a half on an a-series card, then pretty much as soon as I put in an e-series the camera throws a fit...seems very odd to me.

Would you have any other insight into what the problem could be.

Thanks for your time and help.

Indy

I stand corrected. Thank you, Jan. Its my producer's cam, and I am going by what they had said to him. I just emailed him to see what their deal is? Sorry about the confusion.
