GH2 Help! GH2 Screen going black!

Apologies f this has been discussed, but I have searched and cannot find any mention on the forum.

I have a new and barely used GH2 with a 14-140. When taking stills or video, the LCD spontaneously and intermittently goes dark. The recorded image is not affected.

I have turned off the EVF sensor, and the screen still goes black at seemingly random times. I have also removed and reseated the lens to make sure it has a firm seat.

Is this some kind of noob error, or does my new baby have to go back to Panny for some fixin'?

Thanks in advance for helpful info.

PF -- to confirm, in the "CUSTOM" menu, page 5, you selected "LVF/LCD SWITCH" and turned the "AUTO SWITCH" to "OFF" -- correct?

As brunerww pointed out, this is normal. It senses when you are near the eyecup and switches back and forth to the LCD. Change the settings if you don't like it.

You should really read the whole manual about all the functions. This is important to do.

Well he did say, "I have turned off the EVF sensor, and the screen still goes black at seemingly random times." But the poster above's conformation is the first step on checking it.

Is it possible you're accidentally pressing the "lens release" button (the silver button to the left of the lens mount)? It was happening to me before, and I finally figured out that my left hand was doing this without me knowing. Just the lightest tap, and the image goes black.

Hopefully that's the issue, and not that you have a defective camera.

Thanks all for the help. Jaime wins - I was grazing the lens release button. Rather have a noob error than a broken camera.
All is well now.
