HD Timelapse

nice work! What kind of shutter speeds did you use there? and what intervals? I figure at least the airport footage couldn't have had very long intervals to get that smooth motion of the planes.

Everything but the clip at the end was shot with the shutter open for 2 seconds. The last clip was 1 second exposures, which I really didn't like. If anything I'm going to go longer on the exposure times, not shorter.

Breathtaking Drew. Since you first posted this it has become etched on my mind. Nothing I've seen on the net has been as affecting as what you've put together here. I'd love to sit in a cinema and have these images wash over me.

*Gush end* :)

I particularly like the first 2 locations, obviously a great way to open. One thought...I felt a little "thrown in" at the start (with both sound and vision). It looks like you've added 2 locations since the last...have you shot any other spots that you've found memorable?

Nice choice of music too. Gattaca's soundtrack is a bit special - I only wish it was a little longer. It fits the movie perfectly but is just a little too short for an album.

that was amazing.. i love it! so you set the shutter to be open for 2 sec. but how long of a time did you set it for in between pictures? how long did some of those shoots take? i have a 20D and i was going to do a basic time lapse for an opening of a wedding video. i was going to try it through the camcorder but that just looks so good i might give it a try with the camera

something about your photography... I dunno.. incredibly inspiring.. I had ideas popping into my head the entire time I watched your HD footage..

incredible.

Thanks Loki, I'm glad I can bring the inspiration out in some.

P&C, every shot in there was one right after another. So as soon as the shutter would close I would take another picture. Just try it out. I got the idea how to do it by watching some timelapse that someone told me was done with a DSLR. Its all trial and error.

Drew looks really good. Are you going to put some of your stuff for sale on one of the stock sites or are you just advertising for your services. Either way I think you should put some up for sale it looks really good some of the best stuff I have seen. Have you thought about taking your HVX and doing some timelapes with that and compareing the two.

Iimgent, I do have my stuff up on a site for sale. Timelapsedigital, I think is the name of it. The only problem is that its kind of priced outside of most of the peoples' budgets on this site. But if people want to buy a clip or clips they came always email me. I've done a couple sales but nothing to really brag about.

When my contact is up with that site and if things don't go that well. Then I'll be looking for other places to sell my footage. But I do hope things work out with that site.

As for doing timelapse with the HVX, I haven't really thought about it. I just started playing with the shutter degrees and there's some settings in there that I might be able to use along with the 2fps hack.

Great stuff enjoyed it! question, what size images did you do and what resolution? I have been try to do this unsuccessfully and had never thought of using SLR i just bought a D30 i will try again. this is why i frequent this site people are so open and inspiring thanks for sharing! Oh yeah what did you edit on?

I shoot in medium jpg on an 8.2MP camera. So that's 2544x1696. I processed the images in Motion and then did all the editing and music in FCP.

Why did this get moved to the HVX clips section. I'm not really complaining because I would rather have it here because its a higher traffic area. But the clips I posted didn't have any HVX footage in them. Oh well, thanks whom ever did that.

My fav shots were the airplanes overhead, and great composition with the Golden Gate! I'll throw in another chime of much love for the haunting Gattaca score.

Great imagery Drew! Awesome stuff.

Not too sure about using Nyman's stuff though; would of preferred to hear some original, or royalty free sounds.

Dooser, yes I used a timer remote controller to do all my shots. Before that when I had my Digital Rebel 300D I was using a IR remote clicker and that was a pain in the ass. Plus the 300D would choke on the frames to fast.

Vidled, I would have used the same track that I was using on my last reel. But I figured its an updated reel, I might as well update the music as well. I wish I had the time and the skill to make some music to fit my reel but hey, it is what it is.

Thanks for the comments.

Drew,
re: the music: aye, understood; it's the copyright thing that bugs me a little (but I've been told to chill out about this kind of stuff before, so...:)

re: rebel: did you ever try Canon's software? They offer free software that is awesome for timelaps. Works with the higher end cams, the 300D was one of them. I've used it with a laptop, and it works very well. Highest frequency was about one every 4 seconds IIRC.
