If you like that little "movie" clip that I posted then you will like the next thing I'm planning on posting here around next week. That's if I can get it cleaned up enough to show everyone here.
You might be able to get something like this timelapse on the HVX with the 2fps frame rate hack and putting the shutter into 360d. I haven't tried it yet but it might look cool. Its just kind of hard to make it look like what a 20D can do.
I haven't had a problem with it at all...yet. I'm sure if I keep doing stuff like this it will give out sooner or later. But I've made a little cash off of these clips...enough to pay for a new shutter.
This is amazing work. I always love your stuff. But I do have one question, and it may come off as a little rude, but frankly I like to be blunt.
Why is your video/photo stuff so amazing while your website is so ugly?
Matthewkern, that made me laugh. I totally agree with you that my site sucks but I mainly just have it so I can show some of the stuff I've done. I don't use it to sell anything. But if I had the time and the know-how I would make it much better. It kind of reflects who I am. In that if you saw me you would think I'm just some guy that looks like a skater and doesn't do stuff like this.
Also sometime this week I'm going to put the track I used on the first timelapse reel into this one. People seemed to really like that track better.
Just a few questions for you Drew. I am guessing you shoot this in shutter priority to allow the Camera to adjust the aperature as needed for changing light levels? Also, do you you white balance manually so that the balance isn't always shifting due the AWB?
On a side note for everyone out there doing this (or looking at cameras that can) the Nikon D200 has a built in interval shooting option that is really slick. In fact it allows you to set the start time for shooting in case you want to sleep in I am not sure if the D80 is going to have this as i haven't checked that out but I am guessing not.
Happy shooting,
Trent
PS - fantastic shots Drew. They really got me excited about using this method in my films.
I went out and did some tests with a D200, however, my results were varied. It is really fun stuff, it makes me sad that I live in such a small city because there is little to no traffic. Anyways, I am wondering how you keep the camera from changing exposure from frame to frame. As cars drive by the it causes exposure changes that effect the video. do you have a special method?
Nikon also makes a program (Nikon Capture) that you can run on a laptop to do timelapse control with just about any Nikon DSLR. But again, you have to be tethered to the laptop. I have yet to try out the program, but I plan to as soon as the temparature here drops below 105.
This looks amazing... it reminds me of the film, Koyaanisqatsi. It mostly all time-lapse film with a really great score. It compares human life, and bascially how we are not one person in the world, but part of a giant moving machine or engine... its artisty, but really intresting, and good.
