HD faster than 60fps????

There is a small consumer camera out on the market doing a crazy 300 fps.... can't remember who makes it though.

BTW, not at HD resolutions though...

That's the camera they shoot the Mythbusters slow-mo on.

The coolest thing is when they get a fluorescent light in the shot, you can watch it pulse through different colors and turn on and off.

The Cine SpeedCam will do up to 4,000 fps and it's a sweet camera to use. You rent it through Innovision Optics in Santa Monica. http://www.innovisionoptics.com/prod/cinespeed.shtml

Well that doesn't go up to Full HD (1080P), it is close though.....

PAL or NTSC Stream in SD up to 1000 fps for external synchronization
1536 X 1024 pixels at up to 1,000 fps
1024 X 768 pixels at up to 2,000 fps
768 X 512 pixels at up to 4,000 fps

So I'm thinking the only thing that can get a decent speed in HD would be the Phantom.

If you wanted a camera like the Cine Speed Cam.... you could use the Phantom V 7.3 (max of 500,000fps; don't know at what resolution though) or the Phantom V5.1 (max 95,000fps; don't know at what resoultion.).

Umm those cams cap out at under 7,000 fps, not a ludicrous 500,000 fps.
One second of 500,000 fps footage would take you 4.5 hours to watch on a TV lol.

Right at the the top of the page on those links
"800 X 600 @ 6,688 frames-per-second (fps), and up to 500,000 fps with the new "turbo mode." The undisputed king of speed."

Half a million FPS? What even goes that fast? Seriously.

I'll bet it doesn't need much light for that either...

500,000 fps at the resolution of 32x16
Yes, that's .000512 Megapixels, about 1/250th of SD resolution.

You know that with 500,000fps at a 180 degree shutter, you could literally fire a flash 300m away and not see it until the next frame, because light only travels 300m in 1/1,000,000th of a second.

Does anyone know what speed you shoot bullets at? You've seen the footage, but I don't know if they are at 200-300 fps or up in the thousands? I used the CineSpeedCam on a recent project but for our needs, 300 fps was fine to slow down typewriter keys hitting the paper.

200-300fps is the range of pellets and BBs and the like. You'll see most bullets between 1000 and 4000fps with rifles on the higher end of that.

Thanks for the advice Professor. Do you think the same frame rates apply for those cool shots of bullets entering balllstic gelatin?

Dan

I've seen the mythbusters shoot plenty of ballistics gel shots with the 1000fps cam and it turns out alright, but not great. The cam seems better suited to "chicken gun" antics than real bullets. If you want to show a bullet travelling 1 ft into gel over 10 frames then you would want in the neighborhood 10,000 fps, 1,000 only gives you two or three real frames of action. You might get more usable stuff from a few well-placed still cameras.

bad-ass options. I remember a film professor in college showed us a great video he edited that was the moment a popcorn kernel explodes into a piece of popcorn. If you can find it anywhere to see it's awesome. Was made by the Canadian Film Board. It takes you like a minute to figure out what the hell it is. I think he said that the film camera would run through the whole magazine in seconds..

Now in HD we can go even faster....
