Welcome, dvxpimp. (interesting name, it inspires new phraseology such as "I'm gonna dvx slap you!")
At any rate, I have no knowledge of the Prozoom, but if it is LANC compatible, there may not be any sensible hack. It might be better to keep it as is and build your own for $20.
yeah.. you could unscrew it and take some pics and let us see whats inside it and we can give you a better idea if you can use the pot. It would be nice to have a springback pot.
the DVX actually doesnt need that because it has an IR reciever in the back and the front so you can use the remote almost everywhere... its a good idea however, I would of never thought of it.
Do you have to use a 20k Linear Potentiometer the only thing I could find was a 25. When I hook it up the camera zooms out but when I turn the knob it won’t zoom in. Is this because I have a 25K pot?
you need to use the correct pot... I doubt there is anything wrong with your camera, and unless you shorted it out its pretty hard to screw the port up because all it measures is resistance.. You can add a resistor inline with the pot, but off the top of my head I couldn't tell you which one to use.
I have no experience whatsoever doing this kind of stuff, theres no way I could feesibly make this on my own. Someone else asked as well, would someone make this (hopefully jared?) and sell it? I mean on a 1 to 1 basis, I am in dire need of this for a thesis film and don't have enough money to buy/rent the stuff out there. If anyone is willing, please let me know.
I don't want a variable rocker or pot. control. Rather, I'd prefer to use three switches. one for start stop, one for zoom in and a third for zoom out. What would be the appropriate ohms for zoom in and zoom out?--the zoom switches would ones that stay on while the user holds them, the start/stop would be the same momentary one described in thread. I generlly set my camara for the slowest zoom settings so I don't need variable speeds.
just a suggestion but, since its just as easy to build a variable control , you might as well just build that, and add in the on/off switches to the variable controls. then just set you variable control to the speed you want, and leave it there, and use the inline on/off switch to control the zoom at that set speed. but not adding the ability to vary the speed is kindof selling yourself short. unless your absolutely positive youll never want any other speed which is sort of silly to say. ive never used the 60i/30i settings on the dvx, but i wouldnt just get rid of them if i could. in fact i would add a billion more settings that i may never use if i could. cause when the day comes , i want to have the right tool for the job.
I'm still not sure about this. When the camara's zoom switch is used, and when it is released it goes into a neutral position. If a pot. control is used there is not a center or neutral position. Does this mean that there is a chance that the zoom servo motor is always engaged? Couldn't that cause damage?
The camara does not have true variable speed but rather several discrete speeds (slow, medium and fast) in both zoom out and zoom in. Becuase of this I'd feel safer using two momentary switches--one for zoom in the other for zoom out. When it is not being used it will be in a neutral position. the speed of the zoom can be set throught the camara's menus.
