I made the article for you guys to make it yourself, it's really easy. I dont think I am going to become a Zoom Controller hawker, but what do you think if I sold all the parts as a kit? ALthough the parts are so cheap it's really not complicated.
What would you say to someone whos have very little or no electronics/circuit building experience?? I'm afraid to phuck something up and then screw up my camera somehow.
Yeah I guess I understand. It's really easy though, and remember this unit has no power, so even if you short out a connection, all it will do is zoom out on you.
Special thanks for taking the time to put together such a detailed (and elaborately illustrated) 'how-to' article. I guess there really isn't much excuse to keep one from building their own...
Construction under way. You are a god in my eyes for doing this Jarred. This kind of stuff lights me up and really gets me goin'.
Everyone making this read where it says " make sure you run your cables before soldering " over and over till it stays. I screwed up 4 times, first I forgot to put the cables through the box, then I forgot to put the 2.5mm cable sleave over the cable, then I forgot to mount the switch before soldering, and I just finished screwing the pooch one more time.
So I decided to take a break, and come here and thank you. Very Very good sire.
Terriffic! A couple of questions though... hope you don't mind.
Does the zoom control ease in and out slower as you slow down the knob? (I like to start and end zooms almost imperceptibly and ramp up in the middle.)
I just bought the steadycam JR from someone in Vancouver... it has a little toggle switch on it for start/stop of the camera.
I'm not sure if it is a momentary or an on/off. I can check that out but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the cam control and the JR.
I love doing little DIY projects. Thanks for coming up with this one.
I understand the speed steps, but are they smoothe or jagged as the speed increases/decreases. I just ordered my DVX last week and Fed Ex tracking says it will arrive tomorrow!! One of the reviews on the camera said that it was difficult to achieve a smoothe ease in on the zooms. The XL1 has an extremely subtle zoom ease in/out. I can't wait to get my hands on. BTW that two pot zoom makes a lot of sense (most of the time we are zooming in only one direction at a time anyway) Thanks for the feedback.
The home made zoom control (and its dual knob variant) both have a smooth ramp up and ramp down.
The start stop button requires no extra circuitry, the camera was designed to accept a simple momentary contact switch and (apparently) has debounce circuitry built in.
Hi,
Very smart and simple
Can you hack LANC to PAnasonic connection
So those of us who have LANC attachments and are crossing over to PANA can use them.
