C200: Good real world review of C200

It's mind boggling to me that they not only did it this way on the C300-2 (and presumably on the flagship C700), but continue to not have a true proxy workflow on their latest camera. I mean I don't think it's possible that Canon isn't aware of the standard proxy workflow, so there must be a reason they don't offer the option, right?

I mean I'm going to be slightly annoyed every time I have to use Eric's Adobe Bridge method because it's just an extra step that shouldn't be necessary. Here's to hoping my MacBook Pro can edit the files natively...

I don't think it's that odd that they are choosing to do this. It must save quite a bit of engineering time to just use their existing mp4 option and its file naming scheme for proxies. Perhaps they are assuming that the need for a proxy workflow is decreasing and that most NLEs now have good proxy options. Also, if you really care about using the in-camera proxy, you can automate the renaming option that Eric talks about above. Sure, it's not ideal but it's a one-time setup. I wonder if any of the ingest apps have this option?

I haven't seen this posted here already but my apologies if it has been and I missed it.

Check out the comments too as there's some interesting info about output limitions and CFast choices.

Aside from the proxy file name FUBAR, this is a great review of the C200! The footage looks great, and the DPAF is amazing. The shots of the woman walking toward the camera and the lens maintaining perfect focus tracking are incredible.

The production of proxies in FCPX is outstanding. I imagine the other NLEs offer a workflow as well. Not ideal for some, but it's so simple to just make them in your editing system and "flip a switch".
