GH5 Available for Pre-Order at $2k, amazing features.

It's best to have the camera in your own hands and then you'll truly know...can't trust clips online and people's workflows.

...and with the GH5 firmware rollout schedule, it's difficult to know exactly how good the camera might eventually get. Do I understand correctly that h265 encoding is available later? I know this isn't Sony, but am I the only one worried about heat management? Specwise, I think the GH5 sounds pretty darned good, and I'm looking forward to seeing what an improved encoder will do.

When the initial GH5 rumors appeared in 2015, I said that the much needed upgrade would be the Back Side Illuminated sensor for a superior low light performance. Whether or not Sony refused to manufacture one in 43 format or failed to catch up with the production demands due to the earthquake or simply made a comprehensive deal with Panasonic to deliver this sensor for this camera, the BSI technology will have to wait. However, it is probably the "next big thing" to come.

180fps slow motion on the Panasonic GH5 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b5Nvm12-NI

Well this bothered me, because the 1080p 30fps stuff is aliased all to hell on the bottom of those white beams. Turns out that it's a poorly-executed test; what he's showing as 1080/30p is not, in fact, 1080/30p. Instead, it says that he sped up the 180fps footage on the timeline. So what you're seeing is 180 fps footage in both cases. And that's why it's aliased and low res. Disappointing; I really would have preferred to see native 1080/30p compared to the 180 fps stuff to see how much dropoff there is in the footage.

If I had to make an observation based on what's online, that 'Bored' 180p looks like anything you can get from a Sony right now. Not 180, but 120. The RX100 V might even look better.
